In addition to performing the duties of a respiratory therapist as described in the respiratory therapist job description the Advanced Respiratory Therapist fills a specific role in a specialized area of expertise. Provides advanced assessment treatment and monitoring of hospital patients with cardiopulmonary compromise and provides advanced support for the equipment necessary for the care of these patients. Provides diagnostic therapeutic critical care and preventative services to patients in the Emergency Department PostAnesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Critical Care and may also function as the shift Charge Therapist. Serves as a technical and educational resource for patients and their family members Respiratory staff Respiratory students and other members of the patient care team. Responsible for assessing data reflective of the patients status and appropriately interpreting information relative to the patients agespecific needs. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. Must be flexible to work hospital hours including days nights weekends and holidays. Critical Care ED Bronchoscopy and Difficult Airway competencies in addition to routine hospital respiratory floor competencies required.
Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy Associates degree and a minimum of one year of experience in a respiratory therapy critical care environment including demonstrated Critical Care ED Bronchoscopy and Difficult Airway competencies in addition to routine hospital respiratory floor competencies required.Bachelors degree and a minimum of two years critical care respiratory therapy experience at Mayo Clinic or another healthcare facility with similar patient acuity and complexity preferred. Demonstrated ability to adapt well and calmly to unpredictable situations within all hospital care settings. Evidence of effective interpersonal skills advanced patient assessment skills and advanced computer skills. Current Arizona Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License required. Must be credentialed through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Basic Life Support Certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. ACLS preferred on hire and required within 6 months; ACLS must be maintained thereafter. PALS preferred.
