As a School SpeechLanguage Pathologist heres a bigpicture view of what youll do:
- Provide homebased speech therapy to patients having communication swallowing or cognitive difficulties due to an illness or injury
- Work as part of a home health team which may include an RN LPN CNA HHA PT and OT focused on the patients plan of care and established goals
- Observe and evaluate a patients ability to communicate swallow and process information
- Conduct patient assessments document progress and ensure patient goals are met
- Assist with mouth breathing and swallowing exercises fluency articulation and reading
- Educate patient and family on plan of care therapy goals safety practices and selfcare
A few musthaves for School SpeechLanguage Pathologists:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology and active SLP license in Virginia
- Minimum of 2 years of speech therapy experience
- CPR certification
- Knowledge of state and federal school regulations
- Good clinical judgment critical thinking skills strong communicator empathy and compassion
