Position Summary:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a public safety professional that responds to medical emergencies and other medical transport needs in prehospital and interfacility settings. Upon arrival the EMT performs triage and initial survey provides emergency care through careful assessment of the patient and recognizes injuries and illnesses. The EMT shall also gain knowledge of preexisting medical conditions previous medications medical preferences and identification of the patient.

• After proper training the EMT may administer epinephrine for the treatment of anaphylaxis airway management and/or oxygen administration with a BlindInsertion airway device (BIAD) and provide other interventions within their scope of practice as approved by the EMS Medical Director.
• Renders necessary emergency care for acute illness or injury including medical emergencies traumatic injury behavioral health emergencies or other associated care of chronic comorbid conditions.
• Reports essential information concerning the patient the patients medical condition and treatment to the medical personnel who assume responsibility for continuing care of the patient.
• Utilizes EMS telecommunications for coordination and information exchange with EMS dispatchers medical facilities online medical control and other system users and conducts radio transmissions appropriately with regard for rules regulations and procedures.
• Responsible for routine daily maintenance checks on the vehicle assigned to them and records results on the vehicle maintenance checklist; properly cleans and restocks assigned vehicles after each call; and refuels vehicle (at the designated service stations) after each call or when tank is less than 1/2 full.
• Adheres to the Covenant Health EMS dress code while on duty.
• Completes all mandatory Covenant Health training mandatory Covenant Health EMS inservice training as well as additional independent training to meet State of Tennessee minimal continuing education requirements.
• Local travel required.
• Follows policies procedures and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

None specified; however must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience:

Must maintain EMT license. Two 2 years of experience in EMS or in another healthcare setting preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

Must have and maintain current TN license as required to perform the duties of an EMT in the State of Tennessee. Employee must have a valid drivers license and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
