Role Description:

The Supervisor Utility Maintenance is responsible for the operation and maintenance of sanitary and combined sewer systems. Oversees the Floatables and Regulator Structures Section of the Inspection and Maintenance Branch and carries out the full range of work associated with the sanitary and combined sewer systems and facilities with the District of Columbia.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Investigates all customers complaints relating to clogged sewers in the District of Columbia.
  • Plans directs and monitors ongoing programs of the Section.
  • Operates 24hour service in the investigation and correction of complaints concerning sanitary sewer malfunctions.
  • Initiates maintenance modifications and repair projects in the sanitary and combined sewer systems.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of engineering design hydraulic and other related studies of the sanitary and combined sewer systems in the District of Columbia for modernization and modification.
  • Manages the operation of the television inspection of public and building sewers. Reviews field reports identifies the problems gives recommendations and generates work for the Repair Branch.
  • Oversees the annual operation budget for the Section and proposes projects for inclusion in the Departments Capital Outlay Budget. Also assists in preparing annual budgets.
  • Monitors all ongoing Section activities services and training development of employees.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises employees; makes work assignments set priorities etc. Establishes work performance standards prepares written performance evaluations and monitors employee code of conduct; recommends promotions terminations reassignments disciplinary and other personnel actions. Determines training needs and approves and schedules leave. Ensures that workers complete projects or assignments in a thorough and responsible manner.

Key Working Relationships:Interacts with officials in the department and throughout the Authority and with the general public.

Skills & Qualifications:

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience:A minimum of five 5 years of progressive experience related to the operation and maintenance of storm water sanitary and combined sewer systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum Education Requirements:Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university or collegeRequired Skills:Strong analytical planning and organizational skills.Excellent communication skills both orally and in written.Utilizes personal computer and maintains a working knowledge of applicable software programs (i.e. word processing spreadsheets email etc..Required Licenses & Certifications:N/ARequired Languages:EnglishPhysical Requirements:Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures.Subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes odors dusts mists gases or poor ventilation.Subject to noise and to hazards from a variety of physical conditions.
