What you will be doing:
- Spotting cars on the correct track; moving empty cars and building the outbound train
- Classification of inbound train
- Interaction with Class One railroad
- Visually inspect rail cars and perform air brake inspections
- Crosstrain and assist in the different functions performed at the facility
- Operate a locomotive we provide training and certification
- Participate in and promote the Savage safety program/SHAPS
Requirements of a successful Rail Switchman:
- Minimum of two years of switching experience
- Work is performed within a refinery setting and requires all hires to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
- Attend and pass all training associated with jobrelated coursework. This includes but is not limited to: OSHA HazMat and FRA related courses
- Travel to other sites to assist in switching and training requirements
- Willingness to wear required PPE
- Work rotating shifts holidays and weekends
- Read write understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
- Perform basic maintenance
Here are some of the physical requirements of this role:
- Work outdoors in allweather conditions in addition to walking and standing on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
- Comfortable with heights
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
