Cloud Engineer

The Digital Modernization Sector has an exciting career opportunity for a in Colorado Springs CO to support the US Space Forces Space Systems Command (SSC) Operational Command and Control Acquisition Delta known as Kobayashi Maru. This role is instrumental in the development and deployment of mission critical software for space defense space domain awareness and enabling data services. This position is 80 hands on keyboard tactical engineering and 20 product/team support.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design deploy and manage virtual cloud infrastructures across hybrid environments (onpremises and cloud) such as AWS Azure Google Cloud or Oracle Cloud (IaaS & PaaS).
• Maintain and optimize virtualization platforms like VMware ESXi HyperV and cloudnative virtualization solutions.
• Automate deployments and configurations using InfrastructureasCode (IaC) tools such as Terraform Ansible and CloudFormation.
• Provision maintain and scale cloud resources in AWS Azure GCP or OCI in collaboration with crossfunctional teams.
• Monitor cloud resource utilization to ensure cost efficiency and scalability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system application and infrastructure issues performing root cause analysis as needed.
• Ensure infrastructure meets security compliance and operational standards within a DevSecOps framework.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and integrate infrastructure automation into the development lifecycle.
• Implement and manage containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for microservices architectures.
• Configure and maintain monitoring tools to ensure system and application availability and performance.
• Identify and implement optimizations to improve efficiency reduce latency and enhance system uptime.
• Apply security best practices including identity and access management (IAM) network segmentation and encryption to protect hybrid cloud infrastructures.
• Assist in audits and compliance initiatives (e.g. RMF NIST ISO 27001.
• Provide Tier2/3 support for escalated issues working closely with internal teams and external vendors.
• Document procedures configurations and troubleshooting steps to enhance knowledge sharing.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth and development initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

• Requires BS and 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 years of prior relevant experience additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Must have a DoD8570 IAT Level 2 baseline certification (Security CE or equivalent).
• Must have AWS Certified Solutions Architect Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer certifications.
• Proficiency in virtualization technologies including VMware HyperV and OpenStack.
• Strong expertise in public cloud platforms such as AWS Azure Google Cloud (GCP) and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
• Handson experience with InfrastructureasCode (IaC) tools like Terraform Ansible and CloudFormation.
• Solid understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus Grafana etc. and incident management.
• Familiarity with networking concepts including VPCs subnets VPNs and firwalls.
• Practical knowledge of DevSecOps principles methodologies and best practices.
• Must have an active Secret Clearance.
  

Preferred Skills and Certifications:

• Cloud Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer. Security Certifications: CISSP CEH GIAC or Cloud Security Automation (GCSA).
• Experience with security frameworks (e.g. RMF NIST 80053.
• Knowledge of scripting or programming languages such as Python PowerShell or Bash.
• Familiarity with log management and monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk Datadog or ELK stack).
