Extension Associate Cornell University Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) Veterinary Support Services Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences.

The successful candidate will be in residence at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center located in Ithaca NY. The AHDC is the only fullservice multidisciplinary animaldisease diagnostic facility in the State of New York. It is dedicated to improving animal health and preventing diseases or conditions that might impact animal and human health.

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be a member of a team primarily responsible for facilitating the use of laboratory resources to support individual and population animal health. The team serves as translator and interpreter of test data and assists veterinary practitioners with selection of appropriate test strategies and the application of the results to disease control and surveillance management strategies encompassing a wide variety of species and populations. The Extension Associate works closely with program coordinators in the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to assure laboratory and program integration. The successful applicant will provide veterinary support to laboratory professional staff needing insight into clinical presentations industry standard animal management practices or animal industry trends and needs. As a member of this team the Extension Associate will also share in teaching obligations giving guest lectures in the DVM curriculum and teaching diagnostic concepts to fourth year veterinary students. This veterinarian will also participate in the preparation of educational materials for and communication with AHDC veterinary clients. The veterinary support services team plays a critical role in the laboratory investigation of emerging diseases and in animal healthrelated emergency response. This position is one of four extension veterinarian positions that have complimentary and supporting responsibilities.

Qualifications: DVM or equivalent degree; a minimum of 23 years veterinary clinical experience; and an interest and capability in one or more of the following: population medicine companion animal medicine production medicine and/or livestock/equine disease diagnosis. The successful applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A postgraduate degree or experience in epidemiology population medicine public health information systems and/or experience in regulatory veterinary medicine will be an advantage. Adult teaching experience is desirable.
