JOB SUMMARY:

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the teacher in all aspects of the classroom including but not limited to assessment planning and the preparation and implementation of daily activities. In the event the teacher is not present the teacher assistant is required to take the teachers role.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

General:

1.CDA or RI State Teacher Assistant Certificate required.

2. AA in Early Childhood preferred.

3. Early Childhood experience preferred. Bilingual preferred.

4. Must pass Bureau of Criminal Investigation

5. Must be fingerprinted

6. Must have physical exam upon hire and proof of immunizations

7. Valid drivers license and proof of liability insurance

8. CPR/First Aid Certificate upon hire or within 90 days

10. Annual Flu shot


WORK SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

Full and parttime positions. Evenings as needed. Due to the nature and responsibility of the job this individual must be flexible with their schedule to accommodate the children and families and may be required to work at evening events. May be required to work at any CCAP location.

Has access to all confidential administrative information within the organization. Will maintain the confidentiality of all materials in accordance with State and Federal law and CCAP policies and procedures.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and /or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Supervise a classroom of up to 20 preschool children or 8 infant and toddlers.
  2. Maintain strict health and safety protocols and policies.
  3. Be aware of and comply with HS performance RIELDS and RIDE standards.
  4. Assist teacher in the Implementation of a research base curriculum with fidelity.
  5. Assist the teacher in individualizing for children using assessment data and IEP/IFSP.
  6. Utilize assessment tool through observation and documentation in collaboration with the teacher.
  7. Support effective social/emotional learning using Incredible Years and Conscious Discipline.
  8. Complete 2 home visits and 2 parent/teacher conferences per year.
  9. Attend all agency full staff and education meetings.
  10. Attend inservice training and professional development opportunities to ensure completion of required hours.
  11. Maintain an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
  12. Participate in transition to kindergarten opportunities.
  13. Maintains good positive and effective working relationships with staff families and special educators.
  14. Responsible to report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
  15. Substitutes for the lead teacher as needed.
  16. Ensure the safety of all children in your care and actively supervise all children.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT / ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and to talk to hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands fingers handle or feel objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 40 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The environment is a clinical business office environment. Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens respiratory diseases and other infectious diseases and other biohazardous material requiring universal standard precautions. This position requires the individual to have their own transportation a current unrestricted license to drive documented auto insurance and the individual must be willing to work in clients homes.
