Reporting to the Manager of Security Patrol Officers safeguard people University buildings and property and work to ensure a safe environment on the University campus in accordance with established regulations and procedures. Patrol Officers play an active role in ensuring adherence to University regulations and procedures as they apply to themselves and all persons on the campus. They are required to do extensive foot and vehicle patrols security escorts and be able to pass all background checks. Patrol Officers deal with emergency situations as they arise and investigate all incidents on campus. The reporting structures and supporting documentation are primarily electronic and therefore a strong working knowledge of Microsoft products is required.
The ideal candidate will have a Community College Diploma in a related area with a minimum of one 1 year experience in security. An equivalent combination of education and work experience would be considered. Applicants must be able to qualify as a Special Constable within the Province of Nova Scotia and possess a valid Nova Scotia drivers license. Advanced First Aid and/or the ability to maintain this standard and to perform in emergency situations is required. Security at Mount Saint Vincent University is a 24/7 operation with a rotational schedule including days evenings and night shifts.
Applicants should have welldeveloped interpersonal skills excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work effectively under pressure and with minimal supervision. The nature of the position requires good physical conditioning.
