Job Summary
Coordinate deaf and hard of hearing services for students parents and visitors campuswide. Review documentation and recommend appropriate accommodations to an assigned caseload of students with documented disabilities. Supervise and mentor hourly wage interpreters and oversee contracted vendor communication services. Interpret as needed for academic courses and university events. Provide students faculty/staff service providers and community affiliates with information to promote disability awareness. Engage in the overall development of departmental strategic planning and assessment.
Required Qualifications
Virginia Quality Assurance Screening level III or higher OR Educational Interpreter Performace Assessment level 3. Experience providing direct interpreting services in Higher Education. Certification through a National Professional Organization which demonstrates knowledge of the interpreting field ethical decisionmaking and oneonone interpreting service provision. Supervisory experience and ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications. Experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational medical vocational or mental health setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate of Interpreter Training Program Experience as an Interpreter Coordinator or equivalent leadership role within the field. National Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment Level 4 or higher. General experience in a postsecondary environment working with deaf or hard of hearing population. Ability to caption and or cprint skills. Working knowledge of the laws associated with serving students with disabilities in Higher Education.
