JOB SUMMARY

The Program Director III will lead the Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) operations teams and collaborates with a team consisting of researcher staff interns students and community partners to operationalize the Cancer Centers COE initiatives. This position will oversee the COE operations teams that spans the greater WinstonSalem and Charlotte regions and teams whose mission is to facilitate community engagement clinical care and research focused on improving the outcomes in the catchment area with a focus on increasing health access within the community increasing representation in clinical trials and working with faculty and programs across the cancer center to infuse health access and health opportunity.

This position plans develops implements evaluates and manages operations related to all COE activities including raising awareness of cancer health access issues in the institution and to the community. This position combines administrative management academic research and community engagement skills. Works with leadership in determining strategic goals and ensures decisions are implemented in a positive and timely manner. This position requires the use of judgment and discretion in performing the assigned duties and responsibilities related to the office.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Masters degree in Public Health Social or Behavioral Science Education Business Administration or related field and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in population research community engagement and outreach clinical research trials and/or education. Experience in proposal development for federal agencies (particularly the National Institutes of Health) state agencies or foundations is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Lead strategic operations of the Cancer Center COE over two campuses and across the catchment area.
  2. Work with leadership to define and execute the Cancer Centers strategic vision for cancer health access community outreach and engagement including the development of new programs.
  3. Responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the daytoday operations of COE.
  4. Lead COE managers and staff distributing projects assignments and responsibilities. Creates evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements.
  5. Tracks progress towards goals with defined metrics and continuously analyzes systems and processes. Develops and implements best practices and appropriate changes to improve outcomes in a timely manner.
  6. Assists leaders with budget development and planning and overseeing the financial position of all COE funds (sponsored and unsponsored) ensuring all budgets and guidelines are followed.
  7. Support Cancer Center members senior administrators and leaders to provide technical assistance and foster cancer health access within community engaged research.
  8. Draft literature reviews progress reports and educational materials as well as contribute to the writing of scientific papers for publication.
  9. Lead and/or contribute to the writing of grant proposals and budget preparation and work with faculty to coordinate the successful and timely completion of tasks on COE grants/contracts. This includes the implementation data collection and analysis phases and writing and dissemination of results.
  10. Coordinate with community partners to engage them in the goals of COE and the Cancer Centers programs.
  11. Represent COE and the Cancer Center in meetings within the institution and with leaders in the community and across the country; including formal and informal presentations.
  12. Develops appropriate communication and communication methods to facilitate the flow of information and maximize effective communication throughout the Cancer Center regarding the catchment area and other COE related initiatives.
  13. Willingness and ability to travel across the Winston Salem NC and Charlotte NC campuses including their surrounding areas.
  14. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
