About The Mobile Crisis Team:

The Mobile Crisis Team is a trained multidisciplinary response team that provides crisis intervention services in a variety of settings including community locations where individuals live work attend school engage in services or socialize. Mobile Crisis intervention services are designed to interrupt and ameliorate the crisis experience and include: an assessment that is culturally and linguistically competent the development of crisis diversion plans safety plans or relapse prevention plans support during and after a crisis and coordination with and referrals to health social and other services and supports as needed including peer/family support services. The goals of the Mobile Crisis Team are diversion of unnecessary hospitalizations and arrests engagement in services symptom reduction and stabilization restoring individuals to a previous level of functioning and developing the coping mechanisms to minimize or prevent the crisis in the future. The Mobile Crisis Team strives to build strong relationships and a successful reputation in providing efficient and quality crisis services within a fivecounty region. We serve Cayuga Cortland Madison Onondaga and Oswego counties.

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Mobile Crisis Supervisor and drawing from personal experience and professional training the Qualified Peer will work alongside Mobile Crisis Staff and Mobile Crisis Professionals to provide nonclinical support to individuals/families experiencing crisis and challenges that create risk for an escalation of symptoms. Qualified peers provide support to promote recovery resiliency selfadvocacy the development of natural support and coping skills and connect individuals/families to resources within the community.

This is a per diem position with flexible scheduling options. Available shifts are as follows:

  • Cayuga Cortland or Madison:
    • Weekdays 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM
    • Weekends and holidays 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM
  • Onondaga or Oswego:
    • Weekday evenings 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM
    • Weekends and holidays 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM
    • Overnights 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
    • Weekday daytime coverage as needed

Essential Functions:

  • Promote wellness through modeling and providing mutual support hope reassurance and advocacy.
  • Provide individualized ageappropriate mental health and recovery education.
  • Engage in personcentered client/familydriven nonclinical goal setting
  • Facilitate community connections and crisis support to reduce symptoms and restore functionality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to adults and youth in crisis telephonically or inperson as part of a two 2 person response team.
  • Provide traumainformed emotional support for individuals/families to reduce isolation feelings of stigma blame and hopelessness.
  • Develop wellness safety/crisis diversion plans or wellness promotion plans
  • Assist individuals/families to learn and implement strategies recommended by clinicians and identified in the safety/wellness plan.
  • Serve as an advocate mentor or facilitator to support the resolution of barriers.
  • Accompany individuals/ families to intake appointments for mentoring and support.
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of clients and program goals.
  • Carry out agency policies and procedures.
  • Complete all necessary written reports statistics case files and summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with program and agency standards.
  • Perform other duties responsibilities and related tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience as an individual with emotional behavioral addiction or cooccurring disorders or as a parent/primary caregiver of a child with emotional behavioral addiction or cooccurring disorders.
  • Certified or credentialed as one of the following:
    • Credentialed or Provisionally Credentialed Family Peer Advocate (FPA) who has completed Level One and Level Two of the Parent Empowerment Program Training or approved comparable training.

    • Certified or Provisionally Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) who has completed their content specific training workrelated experience evidence of supervision and passed the Peer Advocate Exam or other exam by an OASAS designated certifying body.

    • Credentialed or Provisionally Credentialed Youth Peer Advocate (YPA) who has completed Level One and Level Two of the Youth Peer Support Services State approved training for YPAs workrelated experience and provided evidence of supervision.

    • Certified Peer Specialist who has completed the required training and has a current or provisional certification as a Peer Specialist from the New York State Peer Specialist Certification Board.

  • Work experience in a behavioral health or related setting with one 1 to two 2 years of personal experience is preferred.
  • Willingness to share personal practical experience knowledge and firsthand insight to benefit service recipients.
  • Must be willing to participate in all required federal state county and agency training including Narcan administration personcentered and traumainformed approaches.
  • Fosters an inclusive environment and demonstrates the values of diversity equity and belonging.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of professionalism and collaborative efforts when working with law enforcement providers and other collaterals.
  • Must possess a valid NYS drivers license and access to reliable transportation.
