As Sr Research Scientist you will Be responsible for and conduct complex analytical development to create new analytical methods and enhances existing methods. Provide technical consulting to internal groups and clients about their programs. Provide technical guidance and mentorship in performing laboratory activities. Routinely act as the technical project leader for multiple projects interact with multifunctional teams to provide technical project updates reviews and evaluate data write reports and protocols.
A Day in the life:
- Independently plans and performs the best scientific approach to develop analytical methods that meet the projects objectives.
- Plan and perform experiments applying a deep understanding of protein mass spectrometry. This should include creating and implementing analysis such as peptide mapping for PTM analysis topdown and bottomup approaches and quantitative methods such as iTRAQ/TMT labeling labelfree quantitation thermal proteome profiling (TPP) for identification of drug targets and crosslinking mass spectrometry (XLMS).
- Acts as onsite Subject Matter Expert (SME) for HRMS instrumentation proteomics qualitative analysis and technology.
- Creates innovative technical options to obtain desired quality of analytical results economics and robustness in analytical applications. May also evaluate existing technical options to identify areas of improvement to achieve project objectives.
- Identify develop validate and implement novel analytical assays and new GMP/GLPcompliant methodologies for clinical and nonclinical studies.
- Ability to lead client discussions regarding technical information exchanges and discussions of project status. Provides recommendations to clients on technical issues.
- Reviews protocols project status reports study reports and other project related technical documents.
- Presents posters and makes podium presentations at conferences.
- Leads in preparation and implementation of SOPs and quality systems as well as developing innovative technology and in evaluating and implementing new capabilities.
- Reviews interprets and analyzes data for technical quality and compliance to protocols methods SOPs client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an indepth evaluation of variable factors.
- Has a wide range of experience uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (i.e. Team Lead).
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
- Previous experience that provides the knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 10 years).
- Deep understanding of protein mass spectrometry.
Knowledge skills & Abilities:
- Candidates should have experience with nanoflow capillaryflow and microflow LC and a range of separation techniques. Experience operating and maintaining high resolutionMS including but not limited to Thermo Orbitrap MS systems / Waters Synapt HDMS TOF systems / Bruker TIMS TOF series is expected. Prior experience with Thermo Tribrid instruments is preferred.
- Candidate should have a strong working knowledge of commercial analytical software such as Proteome Discoverer BioPharmaFinder Xcalibur Byos Mascot Peaks Studio or Bruker ProteoScape scaffold Progenesis QI and opensource software such as FragPipe MaxQuant MetaMorpheus skyline (for targeted assay) as well as a basic understanding of Chromeleon and LIMS system.
- Expertise in data analytics tools such as R/python for analyzing highdimenional data from proteomics experiments including pathway analysis.
- Ability to drive project timelines and deliverables while meeting Thermo/PPDs internal quality and data integrity requirements.
- Candidate should show drive and hunger for applying scientific/technical/ GMP/GLP expertise to address complex R&D issues within a multifunctional project team.
- Demonstrated ability to author and/or review method development reports technical documents and peerreviewed publications.
- Keen interest in identifying new scientific technologies and novel instrumentation which could potentially improve current workflow.
- Effective written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills
- Full theoretical and handson understanding and knowledge of general chemistry and separation science
- Ability to independently review and understand project proposals/plan
- Proven ability in technical writing skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team
