JOBOPENING- Title: CrossCultural Adaptation Technician

SUMMARYProvide orientation services to US servicemembers civilians and their families through the ACS Relocation Program to include Host Nation Orientation Cultural Adaptation walking tours translations German and English as a Second Language classes for the USAG Wiesbaden Community.
QUALIFICATIONS- Fluent in English and German
- Knowledge of German customs culture and language
- Minimum of one year recent work or volunteer experience in Family Service Programs or German tourism
- Able to give orientation information and guidance about life in Germany to newcomers
- Minimum of one year experience in in conducting briefings trainings preparing formal and informal correspondence memorandum reports and data collection and creating lesson plans for classes.
- Familiar with MS Word Excel Power Point Publisher Access Internet and email
- Able to work flexible hours (some language classes have evening hours)
- Familiar with US Army Regulations highly desirable but not necessary
JOB DESCRIPTION INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:Host Nation Orientation Briefing and Walking Tours:
- Conduct the weekly (currently on Mondays) Host Nation Orientation briefings for newcomers. Sssist in the setup and break down registration and preparation of the Host Nation briefing room.
- During the Permanent Change of Station (PCS) months of June July and August the conduct Host Nation Orientation briefings twice a week from June to Augustas agreed upon with the Inprocessing Transition Center.
- Host Nation Orientation tour shall consist of a walking tour through Wiesbaden and will explain area information cultural differences and the actual use of public transportation. During the tour and if no restrictions are in place from the host nation regarding patronage of restaurants coordinate lunch at a local German restaurant where tour participants will learn differences between restaurant culture menu reading ordering and tipping.
- Present a cultural adaptation program in the form of three 3 walking tours per month to educate the community; focusing on methods to purchase train and bus tickets coordination of day trips within the local surrounding area (maximum 50 kilometer radius) to increase comfort and ease with German transportation (train/bus) increase knowledge of how to read the schedules and payment of appropriate fees going to local restaurants and ways to access public recreational and leisure activity centers. Each tour shall be a minimum of two 2 hours and a maximum of eight 8 hours.
- Confirm with participants and participating agencies the dates timesand location of each class training briefing and orientation offered. In case the orientation or the tour is cancelled contact both the agencies and the participants to inform them of the cancellation before COB (close of business) on the day prior to the event. In inclement weather when the walking tour is not possible the Contractor shall provide an inhouse presentation i.e. virtual walking tour that will be similar to the agenda of the walking tour using Government approved virtual communication platforms or provide an alternative date to attend.
- Become knowledgeable of the Host Nation information procedures and requirements necessary to provide the services in the paragraph above.
Language Training /Classes- Basic Conversational German Class: Provide basic conversational German (Deutsch) language class: one and half hour 1.5 hrs) class between the hours of 1100 to 1400hrs; second class during the evening between the hours of 1900 to 2030 (the days shall be coordinated with the Relocation Program Manager).
- Courses shall be eight 8 sessions in length. Classes shall not be scheduled on Training Holidays US Federal Holidays or during DoDDS Spring Break. Five 5 courses shall be scheduled during each contract year. If necessary and with the Relocation Program Manager agreement the summer course may be of fewer sessions.
- EnglishasaSecondLanguage (ESL) Courses: Provide basic conversational English as a Second Language (ESL) classes: a eight 8 week Beginner ESL class twice a week; Each class shall be 1.5 hours in duration. Three 3 courses shall be conducted during each contract year.
Host Nation Support:- When not training teaching or providing Host Nation tours be available to answer questions about the Host Nation by email or by phone.
- Provide unofficial German to English and viceversa translation services on subjects such as rental housing information reading newspaper advertisements transportation schedules including contacting agencies via phone or email as needed
Additional InformationThis position is not eligible for support under the NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) supplemental agreement articles 72 or 73.
