The TWU Merrilee Alexander Kick College of Business & Entrepreneurship seeks a faculty memberforthepositionofchairpersonoftheDepartmentofAccounting&Financetostartin the Fall semester of 2025. Successful applicants for the chair position will possess an earned doctorate in the disciplines of either Accounting or Finance. The candidate should have the qualifications and experience to be appointed as an Associate Professor or Full Professor in either Accounting or Finance. This is a tenuretrack/tenured position. Tenure and timeline negotiable and commensurate upon experience.

The department chair as academic component leader facilitates the management of the progress toward achieving teaching research service and strategic goals. This is a fulltime 12month position. Applicants will be expected to:

  • Maintainacollegialenvironmentoneinwhichallmembersfeelvaluedthattheyhave a stake in the endeavor that they have a voice that they are part of a team and that they have ownership in the program/department.

  • Bealiaison betweenthedepartment andthe Dean:
    • TheDepartmentChairisthepersontheDeanwillturntowithregardtoany issues facing the department.
    • TheDepartmentChairwhowillgototheDeanwithconcernsinitiatedbythe department.
    • TheDepartmentChairistherepresentativeofthedepartmentaspokesperson and an advocate for the department.
    • TheDepartmentChairisalsothepersonwhowillrelateandcommunicatetothe department the perspective of and/or decisions of the Dean/College and University.
    • TheDepartmentChairrepresentsandadvocatesforthedepartmentbutthis must be balanced with the goals of the College/Deans Office students and market demands.

  • Be a team player and a bigpicture thinker. The Department Chair will lead the department in developing and implementing immediate and longrange departmental goalsandstrategies(inconcertwithfacultyinput)tomeetUniversityandCollegegoals and objectives.
    • Thisincludeseffortsfocusedonincreasingenrollmentandretentionadapting programs and curriculum as needed and ensuring appropriate strategies are implemented.
    • TheDepartmentChairwillalsobepartoftheCollegeofBusinessAcademic LeadershipTeamwhichhelpsdevelopgoalsandstrategiesforthecollege.
  • Bearolemodel as a model and they will see how s/he is responding in all kinds of ways.
  • Bevisibleandincommunication.TheDepartmentChairisthegatekeeperand

firstinlineresourcepersonandneedstobeaccessibleandresponsiveincludingtimein the office on campus.

SpecificActivities ofthe DepartmentChair include:

  • Teachtwocoursesineachterm(fallspringandsummer).
  • MaintainScholarlyAcademic(SA)classificationaccordingtoCollegeofBusinessAACSB policy for administrators who also have some teaching responsibilities.
  • BeactiveinserviceontheCouncilofChairsandotherrolessupportingtheCollegeand University.
  • Leadthedepartmentintheenhancementofdepartmentalcurriculaandinitiativesfor the improvement of instruction.
  • WorkwiththeDeanonanyfinancial/budgetaryneedsor challenges.
  • EstablishAdvisoryBoardsforthedisciplinesinthedepartment
  • EnsureeffectiveimplementationofUniversityCollegeandDepartmentpolicies.
  • CoordinateactivitieswithintheDepartmentincludingassessmentaccreditationand other College and University initiatives.
  • Exerciseleadershipinrecruitingandretainingcapablefaculty.
  • ForwardDepartmentalrecommendationstotheDeanforhiringfulltimeandparttime faculty.
  • Monitortheperformanceevaluationoffulltimeandparttimefaculty.
  • Encouragecontinuousimprovementoffacultyperformancebyfosteringandsupporting good teaching relevant research and scholarly writing.
  • Makerecommendationsrelativetotenurepromotionreappointmentsalary adjustment and leaves of absence.
  • Reviewandforwardrequestsforpermissiontotravelforprofessionalpurposesper University policy.
  • Reviewandforwardallfacultyproposalsforawardsandleaves.
  • ArrangeforrepresentationforthedepartmentatofficialUniversityandCollege functions such as commencement ceremonies events etc.
  • Monitorwithfacultytheacademicprogressofstudents.
  • Overseethemaintenanceofaccurateanduptodatefacultyandstudentrecords.
  • Superviseandevaluatedirectreportstaff.
  • Supervisetheresolutionofstudentgrievances/gradeappealsfollowingestablished procedures.
  • Scheduleandpresideoverdepartment meetings.
  • ServeastheprimaryDepartmentalcontactforrecruitmentandretentionefforts.
  • Demonstrateinterpersonalrelationsthatfosteraprofessionalworkingatmosphere.
  • PerformotherdutiesandresponsibilitiesasassignedbytheDean.
