Job Description
Overview
The primary purpose of the Blood Bank Technologist position is to assume responsibility for maintaining blood/blood product inventory daily temperature quality control of designated refrigerators thawing fresh frozen plasma
aliquoting blood for pediatric patients logging in blood/blood products issuing blood/blood products performing clerical duties answering phones and communicating needs to staff under the direction of the Chief technologist.
Responsibilities
Service provided is patient centered.
Actively contributes to creating a friendly environment.
Communicates clearly to ensure understanding.
Organizes work process to accommodate customer needs including internal customers and coworkers.
Processes specimens for analysis and storage according to established procedures.
Performs tests accurately and/or records test results accurately.
Organizes pending work appropriately and holds for followup in accordance with section policy.
Maintains order and cleanliness of assigned area and equipment as observed by Supervisor.
Follows protocol for running controls and accepting/verifying results of noncompliance
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent required. ASCP certification or equivalent preferred. Equivalent experience education and/or training may be substituted for the Bachelors Degree requirement on a year for year basis.
