Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University is seeking a Lecturer to teach Anatomy and Physiology and related courses. These courses will be delivered in both online and facetoface formats. The position will primarily instruct lecture based courses with some opportunities to teach lab sections as well. The position will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students towards academic success. These courses are important for numerous programs across our campus and the Lecturer is expected to monitor student success in order to guide the design and instruction of the courses.

Department Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University holds a strong commitment to excellence in teaching research and service. Our department serves over 600 students majoring in biology and many more students taking biology courses for other degree programs. We share teaching experiences and strategies in order to improve the experiences of our students. Our department is committed to the success of our early career faculty and provides informal and formal mentoring. Our curriculum is designed to support students in developing critical thinking and data analysis skills laboratory expertise scientific writing and oral communication skills. Research in our department spans all levels of biological sciences creating numerous opportunities for collaboration and growth. In addition we frequently collaborate with faculty staff members and students in other departments and colleges for research teaching and service efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in Biological Sciences or a closelyrelated field.

  • A commitment to creating inclusive teaching environments where all students can succeed.

  • Prior teaching or mentorship experience in the biological sciences.

Essential Functions

80 of Time the Lecturer II must:

  • Teaching

  • Course Coordinations

  • Design develop and deliver material using a range of methods and platforms.

  • Create course material lesson plans and curricula

20 of Time the Lecturer II

  • Assessing student learning and student success

  • Student mentorship and support

  • Other activities as determined by department needs

  3. Teaching Statement (two page maximum) that describes:
    • How you have or will implement evidencebased instructional practices
    • How your teaching supports the success of all students
    • How you create an inclusive classroom environment
    • How you monitor and improve your courses
    • A description of how you would approach teaching a 100 person 200level Anatomy and Physiology course at Boise State
  4. Transcripts (unofficial is OK) from all undergraduate and graduate coursework

Closing Date:

To be considered in the first round of review applications must be received by March 30 2025. Review will begin on this date but the position will remain open until filled.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary of $47787.

Our standard faculty contract is a 9month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly renewable contract unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
