Job Description Summary
This System Value Optimization (SVO) Engineer role is responsible for wind turbine aero elastic simulations encompassing New Product Development and Fleet Support as needed. The SVO Engineer will perform stateofthe art simulations in accordance to Design Practices and IEC guidelines. This person will be responsible for loads and tools and methods development as needed. Preparation of certification documentation will be part of the role of the engineer.The vision of the SVO team is to create robust yet costefficient wind turbine product designs by providing bestinclass load assessment validation methods and tools.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Execute mechanical loads analyses controller tunings and tradeoffs (loads stability operation and performance) for new products cost out design updates and fleet support as needed.
- Preparation of loads inputs creation of the aeroelastic model execute loads analysis and perform postprocessing is part of the design loop and therefore the responsibilities of the SVO engineer.
- Perform basic operability checks and frequency domain stability checks.
- Update loads envelopes
- Hand off model and controller to MLA team to execute site specific assessments.
- Perform feasibility studies and develop tech charts.
- Deliver bestinclass loads mitigation and performance optimization technologies to lower Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE)
- Identify and deliver on ideas for process simplification and tools automation
- Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
- Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management manufacturing technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
- Cultivate an atmosphere of team building and learning driving new methods/ideas for loads and performance improvements
- Effectively communicate to external customers & regulators and crossfunctionally to sales product line and other stakeholders.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Wind Systems or Aerospace Engineering from accredited university
- Minimum of 5 yrs experience in Mechanical Wind Systems or Aerospace Engineering
Desired Characteristics
- Master degree from an accredited university in Mechanical engineering civil engineering or aerospace engineering
- Experience in aeroelastic simulations.
- Proven ability to work in a crossfunctional and global environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of aeroelastic simulation platforms: Bladed HAWC2 Simpack SDM
- Experience inwind turbine control technologies operability & validation
- Expert knowledge on wind turbine component design criteria
