WPBF the ABC affiliate in Palm Beach Gardens FL is offering a Paid Internship in the News Department.

Summer 2025 Session:

Application Window: March 15 2025 April 30 2025

Session: June 2 2025 August 8 2025

In order to apply for an internship at WPBF please provide a cover letter with your application. The cover letter should include:

Interns will spend 1012 weeks shadowing and gaining onthejob experience. You will be working in a fastpaced detailoriented environment. You will report to the News Director. Inperson attendance is required.

News Producer

  • You will collaborate with news managers and other producers to determine what the important stories are daily that need to be covered.
  • You will learn how to write copy for broadcast research stories for details and accuracy and develop the ability to complete projects quickly and efficiently.
  • You will learn how to manage the of a live newscast in a control room working closely with production staff.
  • You will learn how to create graphic elements including lowerthird supers and full screen graphics.
  • You must be able to work under tight deadlines and have an eye for accuracy.
  • You will communicate with reporters to learn the details of their stories to determine the placement in the newscast and how to tease compelling elements.

News Reporter

  • You must be able to work under tight deadlines and have an eye for accuracy.
  • You will collaborate with reporters and photographers to learn the responsibilities of covering local news.
  • You will learn how to write your own stories for both online and broadcast.
  • You will learn to standups and practice live shots.
  • You will cover news and write stories for newscasts under the guidance of producers & news managers.
  • You will learn the technical workflow and skills needed to work as a local news reporter.

VideoJournalist

  • You will learn how to gather video and interview content and how to assemble stories for broadcast.
  • You will learn how to make quick assessments regarding safety and situational concerns while shooting video at various locations/events.
  • You will collaborate with reporters with the goal of telling a visually compelling story.
  • You will learn the importance of care and maintenance of equipment.
  • You will learn the technical workflow and skills needed to work as a local video journalist.
  • Prior experience shooting video and/or editing on Adobe Premiere preferred.

Digital Producer

  • You will collaborate with our digital news manager and other digital producers to determine what the important stories are daily that need to be covered.
  • You will learn how to write copy for broadcast research stories for details and accuracy and develop the ability to complete projects quickly and efficiently.
  • You will learn how to produce content in a content management system that supports and populates our digital platforms web and social.
  • You will communicate with reporters to learn the details of their stories as well as make needed calls for information.
  • You will learn the technical workflow and skills needed to work as a digital producer.

Technical Production

  • You will observe and train on all aspects of behindthescenes newscast production: directing technical directing audio camera operation.
  • You will learn how all the roles work together to executea live newscast from the control room.
  • You will learn how to manage newscast software graphics camera shots and live in the field elements during a newscast.
  • You will learn how communicate with a team during stressful situations to troubleshoot and navigate live issues to a positive outcome.
