Job Description

Description of the Organization:

For almost 30 years LEAP has worked with children teenagers and young adults in New Haven Connecticut in some of the lowest income urban neighborhoods in America. As the largest youth agency in our city we provide free academic support social enrichment and leadership development but we do so in a unique way. We give older students (ages 1624 the training education and resources they need to work as counselors to our younger students (ages 715. In doing so we go beyond impacting individual lives through education and employment. We build a community with power and purpose.

Position Summary and Principal Working Relationships:

The Site Coordinator plays a key role in managing LEAPs communitybased programming. Under the guidance and supervision of the Childrens Program Director and oversight of the Director of Programs the Site Coordinator ensures highquality operations at one of LEAPs neighborhood sites. This role involves leading and mentoring Assistant Site Coordinators Senior Counselors and Junior Counselors in delivering social and academic programming for children.

The Site Coordinator reports directly to the Childrens Program Director for direction coaching and evaluation. Additional oversight is provided by the Director of Programs.

Essential Duties:

Counselor Supervision & Mentorship

  • Oversee and mentor 20 high school and college student employees serving as counselors.
  • Establish site norms and expectations regarding attendance behavior and group management.
  • Guide counselors in planning and implementing engaging educational group activities.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Lead dynamic sitebased training to prepare counselors for their roles.

Child & Community Engagement

  • Build strong longterm relationships with children and support their academic and social growth.
  • Plan and coordinate activities to recruit neighborhood children for the program.
  • Develop sitewide and neighborhood activities that foster unity and learning.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about their childs progress.

Program Operations

  • Establish daily site schedules based on curriculum and counselor availability.
  • Troubleshoot onsite crises and develop solutions to meet individual child and counselor needs.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with community partners.
  • Complete all LEAPmandated training sessions.

Summer Program Requirement

  • Responsible for assisting in the development and facilitation of summer training.
  • Live fulltime in the neighborhoods LEAP serves for eight weeks during the summer to oversee operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in youth leadership development community service and/or tutoring.
  • Passion for providing educational opportunities to children in highpoverty urban communities.
  • Commitment to inspiring positive social change through education service and community development.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
  • Valid drivers license and own transportation required.

Salary:$48000 $52000
