This is an advanced professional twoway radio communications systems engineering work requiring planning designing implementing maintaining and operating various largescale infrastructure for public safety related twoway radio communications systems telecommunications computer systems and facilities.
Associates in this class are responsible for managing large and technically complex diversified projects including but not limited to wide area twoway radio transmission systems (digital/analog) bidirectional amplifiers/distributed antenna systems microwave systems fiber optic wide area networks integration of computer networks with telecommunication networks telephone switching and multiplexing systems site security and providing project management for multimillion dollar projects. Responsibilities include acting as project leaders to other technical professionals to provide the most cost effective and technically advanced solutions to the Countys public safety twoway radio communication telecommunication and computer network infrastructure and integrating different technologies. The Associate exercises considerable independent judgment making difficult and complex technical decisions. Work differs from that found in the Radio Infrastructure Systems Engineer classification in that assignments are very broad in scope and Associates provide project management for very large and technically complex diversified multimilliondollar projects. General direction is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for conformity with departmental policies practices and regulations and for the attainment of desired objectives. Manages large scale public safety radio communication telecommunications and computer technology projects. Works under administrative supervision developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators.
Plan design implement maintain and operate complex public safety communications telecommunications and/or computer networking systems
Supports troubleshoots updates and grants or denies radio communications telecommunications and computers system access to resources passing through county public safety radio communications systems inclusive of site security fire station alerting and alpha numeric paging systems
Acts as a liaison with county public safety agencies including testing and troubleshooting system problems; assist with creating/running reports; represents agency on projects related to the regional public safety communication systems
Supervise assign work and is responsible for the performance of radio communication support staff including preparing annual performance reviews approving leave requests meeting and following up on a regular basis to ensure success
Reviews public safety communication telecommunication and computer systems administrative paperwork end user requests and other public safety communications related work
Integrate and merge several different radio communication telecommunication and computer networking technologies to provide a technical solution to the business needs
Manage projects and advises senior management supervisor and staff utilizing project management guidelines and standards project schedules communication plans stakeholder updates project budget risk mitigation strategies and corrective solutions
Performs administrative office duties including life cycle of communication systems hardware and software provide procurement require documentation maintain software licenses and maintain yearly capital and operating budget
Administers all public safety radio communication system site security and access controls
Administers all public safety radio communication system routers switches and databases including user tables indexes views sequences triggers stored procedures packages and functions; enforces and maintains database constraints to ensure data integrity; monitors and tunes databases for optimal performance and efficiency; develops automates monitors and tests database backup and restores processes
Performs as Subject Matter Expert during Emergency Operation Center activations; provide system level updates as required support of radio communication telecommunication and computer systems for public safety regional dispatching services
