1About the position:
The Machinery Engineering lead position is a technical discipline position and working supervisor role responsible for a team of rotating equipment engineers delivering technical solutions for operations support project support and design requests from Australias Business Unit and the 5 US Manufacturing Refineries.
Key Responsibilities:
This frontline leadership position provides guidance coaching and mentors a team of rotating equipment engineers and analysts in machinery engineering support for the safe reliable operation and maintenance of rotating and reciprocating machinery and machinery systems for the 5 Chevron Manufacturing facilities and the LNG facilities in the Australian Business Unit
Support includes all phases of machinery engineering from concept development scoping selection manufacturing technical audit final acceptance startup troubleshooting and failure analysis
Equipment includes pumps centrifugal reciprocating and axial compressors expanders steam and gas turbines motors generators gears fans gearboxes and support systems (control systems vibration monitors and protection systems)
Understand and apply Rotating Equipment Reliability (RER) philosophies of machinery surveillance protection design review quality control/assurance and record keeping
Support all phases of machinery engineering from concept development scoping selection manufacturing technical audit final acceptance startup troubleshooting and failure analysis
Work with Operations Maintenance Engineering and RER personnel to increase machinery Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) minimize down time and increase Solomon Mechanical or Operational availability
Prepare review and approve machinery or component purchase specifications. This may include preparation of engineering operating maintenance or reliability standards policies and instructions within the refinery
Provide technical review and approval of vendor calculations/drawings and technical reports
Spearhead resolution of quality issues during equipment manufacturing witness and approve factory acceptance test results on behalf of the company to ensure compliance with Chevron Engineering Standards (CES)
Lead machinery initiatives and studies to improve plant safety and reliability
Participate in resolution of all operational and reliability issues as may occur during startup and during normal plant operation
Participate in troubleshooting complex machinery problems develop alternatives and work with RER team members and others to propose and implement solutions for longterm reliability
Answer technical inquiries make technical recommendations improve design tools and develop design procedures
Promote adherence to CES for new or modified equipment and ensure the CES Governance Process is followed for any deviations
Evaluate gaps in CES and recommend changes; facilitate local review of new or revised standards prior to implementation; aid in the deployment and interpretation of CES
Participate on Global Manufacturing and Corporate Best Practices teams
Interface with Global Manufacturing and Corporate Best Practice teams for sharing of lessonslearned and to investigate new technology or new applications of existing technology
Communicate technical ideas ta wide range of groups and facilitate meetings of crossfunctional teams
Responsible for preparing and delivering training courses to less experienced engineers RER Operations Maintenance etc. and mentoring of others
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year of previous supervisory or leadership experience
Previous experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience focused on rotating equipment in operating facilities design for major capital projects and operations and maintenance environment including activities related to equipment design preventive maintenance corrective maintenance and troubleshooting
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
