Job Description

Summary

The Department of Music Education at Bowling Green State Universitys College of Musical Arts invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Music Education and Director of Bands. Tenuretrack 9month appointment beginning August 2025.

Information about Program and College

Bowling Green State Universitys College of Musical Artshas earned a reputation as one of the countrys outstanding collegiate music programs. The College enrolls approximately 450 students under the guidance of 55 fulltime and 25 parttime faculty. Our comprehensive music curriculum features specialties in music education and contemporary music including the distinctive DMA in Contemporary Music. The College is home to the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music producing an annual New Music Festival and a nationally syndicated radio program. The Colleges musical calendar features more than 300 performances and presentations annually by faculty world renown guest artists and 30 student ensembles. BGSU Bands consists of three concert ensembles and two athletic bands including the Falcon Marching Band. Working collaboratively with the Director of Athletic Bands and band faculty/staff the Director of Bands leads and facilitates the artistic vision and administrative operations of BGSU Bands. Celebrating its centennial year inBGSU Bands maintain a storied history and legacy and will continue to honor traditions while embracing innovation into the next century.

Essential Functions

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Completed Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education or Doctor of Musical Arts
  2. Minimum 3 years teaching instrumental music (band) in K12 school programs.
  3. Minimum 3 years conducting concert bands at the collegiate level as instructor of record.

    Preferred Qualifications

5 years of collegiate teaching experience.

Unofficial transcripts of highest degree earned are required for candidates invited for inperson interviews. Finalist will be required to submit official transcripts.

BGSU policy requires finalist to authorize and pass a background check prior to receiving an offer of employment.
