About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the postsecondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The Colleges fifth president Dr. Mary Way Bolt reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Marylands most northeastern county just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore as well as from Wilmington Delaware.

With a diverse student population Cecil College enrolls approximately 2500 credit students and 3400 noncredit students. Cecil offers associate degrees certificate programs and noncredit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working under the direction of the fulltime drawing and painting faculty on the North East campus the studio assistant will assist with cleaning and organizing the studio classroom. Additionally the studio assistant will be called upon to perform supporting tasks in an effort to promote the Art and Design program its students and Cecil College.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Specific duties generally include but are not limited to:

  1. General care and maintenance of the studio classroom on the North East campus
  2. Keeping the classroom clean and organized
  3. Care and maintenance of the classroom sink every two weeks or as needed
  4. General maintenance of studio equipment
  5. Assisting with supply inventory each semester
  6. Monitoring and updating bulletin board displays and assisting with distributing Art and Design marketing materials throughout campus
  7. Working on special studio classroom projects and assisting with simple tasks related to teaching art students
  8. Representing the Art and Design program by participating in campus events such as overseeing an art program table for a campus function
  9. Assisting with an Art and Design or Art Club project or meeting or helping with campus art gallery tasks
  10. Complete SafeColleges training
  11. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current college student or graduate with a background or training in art
  • Good interpersonal skills that will foster supportive interactions with students and efficient working relationships with staff
  • Effective communication skills are essential
  • Ability to follow directives diligently complete tasks independently and take measured initiatives
  • Computer skills are required including spread sheet and Word document basics


Schedule:

This is a thirtyweek position that corresponds with Cecil Colleges fall and spring semester schedules. The assistant will work in the North East campus studio classroom and its corresponding spaces. The current schedule expectation is three to six hours per week Mondays and/or Fridays but that expectation may change with changes in faculty scheduling. Additionally scheduling flexibility is required when help is needed with Art and Designrelated events or meetings on campus.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 40 pounds. The physical activity of this position includes but is not limited to: climbing walking stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing pulling lifting grasping twisting and sitting.

Work Environment:

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.
