Job Description
Title: Histology Manager
Shift: Monday Friday 6am to 3:30pm (Schedule is flexible depending on needs of department)
Location: Bakersfield CA
Job responsibilities
The Histology Manager provides bench tech services and manages workflow of tasks and activities in the Histology area. The Histology Manager will manage the activities within the Histology area of the laboratory. This includes coordination and performance of all of the various tasks required for completion of all procedures. The Histology Manager is responsible for creating a cohesive team between both Histology shifts.
Additional responsibilities of the Histology Manager include:
- Record processor numbers/times and totals for workflow purposes
- Help with embedding/cutting
- Approve vacation requests and keep record of vacations as well as attendance for Histology Department
- Do evaluations for staff of Histology Department
- Train new Histology Department employees and aid in their progression
- Review of policies and procedures
- Tracking daily staff productivity in microtomy and embedding
- Receive sick calls from Histology Department and make sure missing staff is covered where necessary
- Trouble and correct discrepancies
- Facilitate communication between Histology checkout courier department Accessioning and Grossing
- Manage checkout workflow and monitor deadlines
- Record and track KPI metrics

Job Requirements
Successful candidates for the Histology Manager:
- 5 years of laboratory and Histology experience
- 3 years of management experience
- Certified Histotechnologist preferred
Key Skills Needed:
- Intermediate computer skills
- Strong communication skills verbally and written
- Laboratory Information System experience a plus
Work Environment:
- This position operates in a laboratory environment and involves frequent standing and exposure to hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials.
Physical Demands:
- While performing duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to stand walk use hands to finger handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
