The City of Pacific Grove welcomes applications for Urban Forester.
Compensation & Benefits
The annual salary range for this management position is $90057 $123073 plus a 3 management incentive 3 x base salary) placement in this range depends on qualifications and experience. A 3 cost of living adjustment is scheduled in July of this year pending approval of a salary ordinance by City Council.

Under general supervision of the Public Works Director administers a comprehensive program for preserving and enhancing city trees and urban and community forests. Oversees the permitting process for trees on private property in the City of Pacific Grove in accordance with city ordinances policies and goals.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Serves as Citys Urban Forester; provides public outreach technical information and community participation programs; addresses public concerns and questions and explains City codes and policies.
Enforces City ordinances and policies governing arboriculture and urban forestry programs including tree preservation practices street tree planting and tree removal and replacement; reviews and approves special requests and project plans and inspects projects as needed.
Administers the Citys tree permit process receiving public and private applications reviewing all submitted information and determining the outcome of the application.
Administers City ordinances and policies relating to arboricultural and urban forestry practices.
Confers with architects developers contractors and utility companies to discuss City programs and projects and tree preservation techniques.
Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures identifies opportunities for improvement and recommends changes.
Prunes cityowned street trees for longterm health.
May supervise technical maintenance and clerical staff.
Provides professional evaluations and reports as appropriate; manages contracts as assigned.
Actively manages urban resources to help the City become more sustainable by reducing the negative impacts on the ecosystem from urban development.
Coordinates conservation issues with other departments community groups and regional agencies; attends public meetings and presents information on urban forestry issues; interprets and explains City codes policies procedures rules and regulations.
Reviews and prepares environmental compliance documents.
Administers urban forestry grants to meet the goals of the City; develops plans and activities in compliance with state and federal regulations and City codes policies and procedures.
Supports the relationship between the City of Pacific Grove and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of workrelated issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education Training and Experience Guidelines: Bachelors Degree in Forestry Horticulture Earth Sciences or closely related field; AND four years of forest program experience; OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist by the ISA certificate desirable.
