Job Description

Overview

SUNY Onondaga Community College located in Syracuse NY is currently recruiting for a Electromechanical FT Tenure Track Faculty

The Engineering Science and Technology Department has a fulltime tenure track faculty position open. Major responsibilities of this position include collegelevel teaching of Electrical and Electromechanical (Mechatronics) courses and laboratories in content areas such as circuit design and analysis digital electronics microprocessor programmable logic controllers robotics (FANUC and UR) industrial automation motion and motor control project management and other typical electromechanical technical areas. Additional responsibilities include academic advising curriculum development participation on committees and collaboration with colleagues to assess student learning outcomes.

The successful candidate will be qualified to teach several of the following classes and labs:

  • ELT 141 Circuits 1 (classes and labs)
  • ELT 142 Circuits 2 (classes and labs)
  • ELT 161 Electronics 1 (classes and labs)
  • ELT 261 Electronics 2 (classes and labs)
  • ELT 171 Digital Electronics (classes and labs)
  • ELT215 Programmable Logic Controllers
  • ELT 271 Introduction to Microprocessors (classes and labs)
  • ELM 105 Introduction to Mechanisms
  • ELM 106 Introduction to Industrial Tools
  • ELM 109 Introduction to Programming
  • ELM111 Introduction to Industrial Automation
  • ELM112 Motors & Motion
  • ELM231 Industrial Robotics I
  • ELM232 Industrial Robotics II
  • Other technical courses as necessary

Knowledge of electromechanical applications in demand by local industry is also valued including but not limited to: hydraulics & pneumatics robotics soldering & electronic assembly electrical test & measurement mechanical assembly techniques motors & controllers sensors & machine vision and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be responsive to student questions and available for student support.
  • Use appropriate technology to enhance learning.
  • Assess learning outcomes and adapt curriculum to meet learning objectives.
  • Demonstrate insight and encouragement in working with diverse student populations especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
  • Provide appropriate academic advising to students to support timely degree completion.
  • Be innovative in the presentation of lectures and handson learning activities that achieve learning outcomes.
  • Provide timely feedback on students assignments and exams throughout each semester.
  • Be accountable to meet the needs of the Department and the College including timely submission of grades and other required materials.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Appointment at the Rank of Instructor:

  • Associate degree in the subject areas of Mechanical Technology Electrical Technology Mechatronics or closelyallied field;
  • Industryrecognized professional license or certification; and
  • Minimum of five years of fulltime related industry experience.

Appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or closelyallied field;
  • Industryrecognized professional license or certification.
  • Minimum of three years of fulltime employment in Engineering or closely allied field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in teaching college level courses.
  • Demonstrated connections with local industry.
  • Industrial Experience:
    • Robotics
    • FANUC Universal Robots
    • Automation
    • PLCMotors & motion control
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English (English and another language also will be considered).

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word Excel PowerPoint and Project);

Additional Information:

  • Thestarting salary for the rank of Instructor is $53045 and Assistant Professor is $59676.
