Job Description

The Language Tools team enables hundreds of Datadog backend engineers to build test and package secure quality code. Our success is measured by their productivity and happiness.

They use the tools that we develop and support several times a day; in dev and CI; in diverse Git repositories from very large polyglot or monoglot repositories (monorepos sic to smaller repositories scoped to services or libraries (microrepos); and in various languages including Go Python Java Rust and TypeScript. To orchestrate our builds we use either Bazel or industry standard tools for the language depending on the repository.

The team is growing rapidly not only following Datadogs growth but also taking over repositories and languages that were formerly managed by their users. As a senior software engineer on the team you will own projects from start to finish both greenfield and brownfield. You will gain firsthand understanding of what Datadog developers need and inform our roadmap.

At Datadog we place value in our office culture the relationships that it builds the creativity it brings to the table and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a worklife harmony that best fits them.

What Youll Do:

  • Invent simpler faster more reliable and more efficient build test and packaging tools.
  • Treat CI like SREs treat prod making sure our pipelines are green and fast.
  • Prepare run and finish complex migrations.
  • Promote coding best practices companywide: linting formatting type checking etc.
  • Engage with the open source community as needed. For example influence and/or contribute to the Bazel roadmap or report issues with Go release candidates.

Who You Are:

  • An expert in one or more of the languages or build systems listed above.
  • A wellrounded engineer. You must broadly understand the various types of software projects that are built tested and packaged with our tools.
  • Both careful and fearless. The changes we make impact the velocity of hundreds of engineers. They are risky but necessary.
  • Userfocused. We help Datadog engineers to use the tools that we develop and continuously improve their usability so they dont need our help the next time.
  • Ideally you have experience working with a large codebase.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. Thats okay. If youre passionate about technology and want to grow your skills we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth:
