Job Description

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Laboratory Processing Assistant to join the Client Resource Team at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center. In this position you will act under the direction of the Client Resource Team Supervisor and support the daily activities of the AHDC by serving as the front line for client service and assisting with the processing of incoming submissions. You are highly collaborative effectively communicate across all levels to assess shareholder needs respond to inquiries and appropriately process test requests. Your excellent time management skills and positive attitude allows you to move efficiently between responsibilities ensuring success as you work in a teambased environment. A keen attention to detail is important as you will perform critical data entry.

The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Actively participate in a broad range of client support and data entry responsibilities while collaborating across multiple units.
  • Actively serve as a point of contact for client inquiries to provide general or case related information and to refer complex inquiries to appropriate individuals.
  • Perform basic sample processing tasks e.g. open packages handle samples generate accessions etc.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records.
  • Monitor and maintain certifications and trainings to meet job expectations and requirements
  • Participate in a rotational schedule to perform duties within the Client Resource Team unit.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma with up to one year of client support experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Works well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at computer stations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Veterinary technician Veterinary assistant or medical assistant experience.
  • Understanding of various customer service tools.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
  • This is a fulltime threeyear term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

Employees working in the laboratory must receive the preexposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business requiring employees to work early mornings evenings weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
