Job Description
Undergraduate Intern / Coop Program Overview
- 2025 Summer and fall intern/coop within a functional area of MKS Instruments that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

Summary & Objectives:
MKS Instruments is looking for an exceptional Software Engineering Coop to join our team. In this role you will have the opportunity to design and architect a new solution aimed at enhancing system connectivity and improving the user interface and user experience within our embedded systems. You will gain practical experience working with Power Generator hardware and laboratory equipment as well as familiarize yourself with professional software development practices.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Interface with embedded devices and laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes.
- Handle simple lowpower electrical and electronic wiring like 110V AC Ethernet RJ45 SMB BNC.
- Participate in the software development process including standup meetings planning sessions grooming reviews demonstrations and retrospectives.
- Familiarize yourself with the existing system connectivity UI/UX design and understand the user requirements.
- Propose and implement a solution to address system connectivity and UI/UX requirements.
- Add unit tests and integration tests for the solution.
- Host training sessions on the new UI experiences for the engineering teams.
- Attend various meetings like 11 with managers and/or mentors staff meetings adhoc discussion meetings.
Required Skills:
- Currently enrolled in a bachelors degree program in computer science computer engineering or a related field with a focus on embedded systems and electronic design.
- Must have development experience in realworld projects using Go and Node.js. C experience is preferred.
- Experience with UI frameworks and frontend libraries such as React.
- Must have working experience with terminals such as shell telnet and SSH on both Windows and Linux.
- Must have a basic understanding of networking such as TCP/UDP IP routing and network interface cards and drivers.
- Must have a basic knowledge of source code version control systems the code review process and Continuous Integration services.
- 4th or 5th year students preferred.
Competencies:
- Demonstrate dedication in completing the tasks.
- Be kind professional polite and respectful.
- Maintain a good working relationship with team members.
- Be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite SharePoint and Slack.
- Need to have basic knowledge of Agile software development like Jira.
Working Conditions:
- No travel requirements.
- Onsite work only. No remote or hybrid work arrangement.
Compensation and Benefits:
Hourly Pay Range: $25.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position based on a wide range of factors including qualifications experience and training operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/coops working at least 20 hours per week including 11 paid holidays sick time and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
