The Mechanical Engineering (ME) organization leads in mechanical hardware design development as well as production using stateof theart tools processes technology and Six Sigma principles. MEs capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering manufacturing technical services materials processes analysis test and documentation.
The Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to work on a multidiscipline team in support of the production of Shipboard Effectors products and subsystems.
This position is in Huntsville AL. (Onsite)
What You Will Do
Contribute to one or more of our contractfunded and independent research efforts each of which is at a different phase of development (proposal design and integration/test). Engineers are generally assigned to one effort at a time but may work multiple efforts over the course of several years.
Communicate with engineering team members and suppliers to analyze model and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements.
Work under limited supervision and act as the responsible engineer often in a project management role over entire subsystems within an effort. This often requires the ability to direct delegate and review the work of others
Tasks include supporting development or production leading proposal activities and technical management of mechanical engineering disciplines throughout the product life cycle. Must be capable of collaborating and coordinating with Operations Supply Chain Quality and other Engineering disciplines to resolve issues.
Initial responsibilities for this role will be on site at a Huntsville supplier to provide focus technical oversight identify producibility improvements implement manufacturing best practices and process and proven ability to provide real time engineering and manufacturing decisions to support product manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have experience with machine shop and welding best practices.
Perform mechanical design development and documentation of components subassemblies and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
Collaborating across multiple disciplines with Structural and Thermal analyst Materials Engineering Quality Safety Supply Chain.
Lead a team(s) with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule financial and technical goals.
Work thru engineering problems associated with large structures welded assemblies component integration mechanisms electronic assemblies
Support suppliers with product integration
Strong understanding of Thermal Structural Dynamic and Reliability analysis to provide inputs and support. Incorporate results and findings into mechanical design.
Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form fit and function are as intended by design for the useapplication.
Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced team environment.
Qualifications You Must Have
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering or similar Engineering disciplineand 8 years of professional relevant experience.
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Experience with CREO or similar CAD tools
Experience with developing a mechanical component or subsystem
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Demonstrated ability in technical .
Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
Strong technical background with high technical aptitude
