At F5 we are building adistributed cloud Services (XC)platform to support largescale highperformance and highly available services across multicloud environments. TheControlPlane Teamat F5 is seeking an experiencedSenior Principal Engineerwith deep technical knowledge ofBGP routingnetworking fundamentals anddistributed systems. You will work on the development and lifecycle of amulticloud distributed platform primarily withinAWSenvironments leveragingKubernetes (K8s)for orchestration.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise inBGPiBGPnetworking fundamentals anddistributed systems particularly inAWS environmentswithKubernetes orchestration. You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable and resilientcontroland data plane solutionswhile bringing leadership experience and technical acumen to influence the future direction of our product.Key Responsibilities
- Leadcontrolpath developmentfor theXC product line focusing onscalabilityandhigh availabilityin distributed cloud environments.
- Design and implementscalablehighperformance solutionsforcontrolplane.
- Technically lead major system components indistributed systems from design to implementation.
- Create and maintain functional specifications and design documents to clearly communicate design decisions and solutions.
- Proactively identify and resolve keytechnical challengesrelated toperformancesecurity andscalability.
- Continuously improve theperformanceandreliabilityof the platform ensuring it meetsoperational demands.
- Investigate and propose solutions tosecurity vulnerabilitieswithin the platform includingthirdparty integrations.
- Mentorjunior engineersand serve as a source oftechnical expertiseacross the team.
- Communicate effectively withinternal stakeholders presenting complextechnical conceptsto both technical and nontechnical audiences.
Qualifications
- 14 yearsof software engineering experience with10 yearsin designing and implementing largescaledistributed systems.
- Prior experience incloud technologies particularlyAWSKubernetes (K8s) anddistributedscalable systemsand theirdeployment models with a focus onscalabilityperformance andsecurity.
- Deep expertise inBGPandIPSec routing as well asnetworking fundamentalsTCPUDPL4L7HTTPBGPIPSec.
- Experience withcloud networking platformsandcommercial BGP routing solutions.
- Strong coding proficiency inC/Golang with a proven track record of leading complex software development efforts.
- Handson experience withDockerK8s andmicroservices architecturein cloud environments.
- Strongarchitectural skillsin designinghighly availablerealtime systemsin distributed environments.
- Excellentcommunicationcollaboration andleadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor teams effectively.
Nice to have:
- Experience withRoute ReflectorsandBGP Confederationsfor managing complexBGP deploymentsin largescale environments.
- Understanding ofroute dampeningBGP path attributes andBGP synchronization techniques.
- Ability to solvecomplex engineering problems making decisions that balancetradeoffsand ensureoptimal customer outcomes.

The annual base pay for this position is: $188436.00 $282654.00F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge skills experience geographic locations and market conditions as well as to reflect F5s differing products industries and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
