The University of Sioux Falls invites applications for the position of Director of Development. POSITION SUMMARY
A Director of Development at USF will participate as a team member of the University of Sioux Falls Institutional Advancement Office reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Each Director of Development is expected to manage a portfolio of between 125 and 150 qualified major and planned gift prospects by building relationships from prospect identification through meaningful and timely cultivation solicitation and stewardship. The successful candidate will be a person committed to the Christian mission of the University of Sioux Falls.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS

The supervisor or designee may assign additional jobrelated tasks or special projects. Travel is an important aspect of the position to support personal facetoface visits with prospects and donors. Occasional evenings and weekends will be involved.
- Identify qualify cultivate solicit and steward major and planned gift prospects in support of the University of Sioux Falls (USF) by matching and advancing the colleges fundraising priorities with prospective donors interests for unrestricted and restricted support.
- Manage a portfolio of 125150 prospects; develop and document written cultivation and solicitation strategies and proposals purposefully guide them to major investments in USF and develop relationships to maximize their giving potential over time.
- Meet explicit performance objectives including the completion of personal facetoface visits (meaningful strategic personal interactions) with assigned prospects each month.
- Assist with cultivation activities and solicitations with other USF representatives including the President USF staff advancement professionals key faculty alumni and volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations staff and other USF faculty and staff to cultivate and solicit donors for collegewide priorities.
- Maintain written strategic cultivation plans for a focus group of assigned prospects scheduled for solicitation within the coming 1824 month period. Plans will project gift amount and purpose as well as a stepbystep plan for cultivation with a cultivation schedule.
- Provide timely written reports regarding the outcome of cultivation and solicitation actions in the form of contact reports stage updates and strategy statement updates and revisions on Raisers Edge.
- Participate in the prospect tracking and management process in alignment with established procedures and protocols through reporting on results calendar plans documentation of strategies and participation in prospectfocused meetings.
- Develop succinct strategic briefing materials to support the work of college leaders and partners in cultivation solicitation and stewardship efforts associated with prospects and donors.
- Assist with the development and coordination necessary for the cultivation of major gifts.
- Travel extensively and consistently to fulfill these duties given the colleges location and the geographic diversity and distribution of its alumni donors prospects and volunteers.
- Complies with all USF policies and regulations and also with outside agencies policies and regulations including but not limited to Title IX NCAA NSIC Department of Education Clery Act FERPA the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission the Department of Labor and the Department of Justice.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred
- Direct fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization (preferably higher education) preferred successful sales experience or equivalent experience will be considered
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn basic planned giving instruments
- Strong communication skills required including written oral and listening
- Strong planning and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple relationships to the point of and through solicitation
- Demonstrate a professional track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts; successful experience in making cold calls
- An ability and willingness to travel extensively on behalf of USF
- Commitment and ability to articulate the Christian mission of the University
- Record of success in a professional work setting; demonstration of a strong work ethic that contributes to a strong team effort and departmental success; evidence of a collaborative spirit
- Proficient with desktop computer Microsoft Office Suite internet printer/fax/copier
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; successfully pass required background checks as required by USF; valid drivers license; travel required.
