Job Description
The mission of Martin Luther King Community Center is to educate youth empower families and build community through quality multigenerational programs that advocate for our neighbors promote racial justice and provide a peaceful space to connect.
MLK Center is seeking a Youth Leader to join our team in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center supporting high school students. Youth leaders create a safe environment for young people provide guidance and mentorship and organize educational and recreational activities in the MLK Centers after school environment. Staff members in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center engage teenagers in the areas of music production video production graphic design 3D printing and much more. Young people have access to equipment such as cameras 3D printers beat machines and DJ equipment.
This is a parttime position based on renewable grant funds with hours from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be available during school breaks for programming and/or professional development.
The Youth Leader works closely with the Best Buy Teen Tech Center Coordinator Pathways Coordinator and Wellness Coach to manage the space and make sure it is an engaging welcoming youthdriven functional space. This position reports to the Youth Program Director.
The typical duties of this position include:
- Organizing Tech Center supplies and updating bulletin boards based on current projects and ideas.
- Engaging with youth after school to explore the space think creatively and work on their project
- Taking Daily Attendance and completing data entry
- Cleaning and Organizing supplies furniture and equipment
- Opening and closing the Tech Center
- Joining a conference call with Best Buy and other tech centers in the region
- Attending a professional development session on new technology or youth development
- Listening to a student who is having challenges at school
- Meeting with the team about a student experiencing homelessness
