What Will Your Job Look Like
The MBTA Mobility Center in Boston assists seniors and people with disabilities in accessing and uses a wide range of transportation services in the Boston area. This newer center has cuttingedge support services. MTM Transit is looking for a qualified candidate to be part of an exciting program and a dynamic multidisciplinary team.
Our Travel Trainer is tasked with training individuals on the utilization of public transportation. The Travel Trainer will assess for appropriateness for independent public transportation use create personalize lesson plans and educate individuals on a wide range of travel skills including: trip planning street crossing bus and train travel map and schedule reading and safety skills while utilizing public transportation. The Travel Trainer will also research identify create and present custom presentations for new referral program opportunities within the community.
What Youll Do:
- Complete inperson intake and assessment for each applicant
- Make determinations whether or not an applicant is qualified to receive training based on the results of the assessment(s)
- Create and provide oneonone individualized field training
- Demonstrate and instruct individuals on transit skills
- Demonstrate and instruct individuals on how to travel routes including navigation and wayfinding strategies
- Instruct individuals on selfadvocacy
- Create lesson plans that are appropriate for individuals of different learning levels
- Research and identify opportunities to enhance the referral program within the community creating custom presentations for this outreach
- Conduct group presentations
- Establish relationships with professionals in the field community and advocacy organizations
- Schedule training at the time and location of the specific routes requested
- Conduct outreach to develop materials
- Provide in class and inthefield training to professionals
- Complete all reports and paperwork including but not limited to; initial intake goal setting and plan progressive evaluation pre and posttest final and followup report satisfaction survey
- Must conform to MTMs HIPAA standards
What Youll need:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Experience working with disability and/or community advocacy organizations preferred
- Familiarity with the transit agency system preferred
- Familiarity with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Even better if you have...
- Associates degree in Education Human Services or Healthcare preferred
- Travel training experience preferred
- Demonstrated training skills comfortable leading groups of people
- Strong interpersonal skills that allow for effective working relationships
- Intermediate level of proficiency or above with the Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work flexible hours in all weather conditions
- Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality

Salary Min: $49000 Annually
Salary Max: $73000 Annually
