About the Opportunity

The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (MIE) at Northeastern University is seeking outstanding individuals to fill a fulltime nontenuretrack faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor with a focus in Robotics. This is a fulltime benefitseligible nontenuretrack position at the Northeastern University Seattle campus. Appointments are made on an annual 8month basis with salary commensurate with experience. Northeastern University teaching professors are nontenuretrack with potential for promotion from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor and to Full Teaching Professor. Fulltime teaching professors are not eligible for tenure. Nontenuretrack faculty have renewable appointment terms guided by the Faculty Handbook. The MS Robotics program with an MIE concentration is anticipated to launch in Fall 2025. Candidates would join a department of over 80 tenuretrack and nontenuretrack teaching faculty as well as several affiliated and visiting faculty.

The position entails educational interaction with students in roles including but not limited to traditional instruction (lecture courses lab courses) curriculum development and student advising. The main responsibility of this position is teaching courses related to the MS Robotics Program with an MIE concentration. The ideal candidate would be able to teach core MIE courses such as Robot Mechanics and Control and Control Systems Engineering as well as offer elective robotics courses. The annual teaching course load is six courses with the potential for teaching more than one section of a course in the same semester over Fall and Spring semesters. Courses may be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

A PhD in Mechanical Engineering or other roboticsadjacent discipline and teaching experience are required by employment start date.

Candidates should have demonstrated experience in robotics and related subareas. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Industrial experience is desirable but not required.

Include a section discussing educational scholarship that you would conduct as part of your efforts in instruction and/or working with students.
