Position Description:

TheMedical College of Wisconsins Department of Neurosurgery isseeking aNurse Practitioner or Physician Assistantto support theInpatient Spine Surgery Specialtyservices located inMilwaukee Wisconsinat theFroedtert Hospital and the Neurosciences Clinic.

MCW Department of Neurosurgery will advance the field of neurological surgery through worldclass care groundbreaking research and innovative education. Our neurosurgeons staff the only Level 1 Trauma Centers in southeastern Wisconsin.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration patient care patient safety research quality improvement and teaching.

The Ideal Candidate will be a new or experience clinician/APP wanting to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Areas of responsibility will include but not be limited to providing direct patient care to patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.

In this role you will:

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring neurosurgical intervention in blended environment as a member of the Neurosurgery Service.
• Independently collaboratively as appropriate seeing postsurgical patients for postop and general follow up in the clinic
• Provider crosscoverage in inpatient settings and on consult service

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams identifies normal and abnormal findings including physical cognitive and psychosocial status.
• Order perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests and appropriately communicates and documents information
• Write accurate and timely progress notes procedure notes and/or admission and transfer orders
• Develop pharmaceutical and nonpharmaceutical treatment plans.
• Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
• Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
• Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
• Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
• Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
• Educates counsels and assists patients and families regarding current health problems health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
• Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements including those of the privileging institution CMS and the Joint Commission.
• Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field through educational programs inservices professional associates and current literature.

Preferred Schedule: Monday Friday 6:30am3pm (can vary slightly depending on the day of the week). There are also opportunities for weekend call for extra pay which is on a voluntary basis and never required
