DescriptionOrientation Leader
The Office of New Student and Transition Programs (NSTP) supports firstyears transfer students and their families as they transition into the IC community. Orientation Leaders (OLs) play a critical role within NSTP working alongside professional staff members to assist with the development coordination and implementation of inclusive services and programs at Fall and Spring Orientation.
We seek to provide a warm welcoming and inclusive environment for incoming students at Ithaca College and highly encourage students of all backgrounds and experiences to apply. This highimpact leadership role provides OLs the opportunity to connect with new peers develop leadership skills and campus knowledge and share their unique IC experiences. Ongoing training and support are provided to OLs through staff meetings fall training and supervision. OLs are supervised by the Assistant Director of NSTP. We are looking for new OLs who meet the criteria listed below.
Responsibilities
- Guide and welcome incoming students and their families to Ithaca College
- Assist with all aspects of Orientation including but not limited to:
- Event preparation and implementation
- Escorting students/families and guests around campus
- Participation in meals and evening/weekend activities
- Crisis response
- Serve as a reliable professional confident and approachable resource for incoming students and their families
- Facilitate and effectively manage small group discussions and activities with an assigned small group of incoming students
- Develop and demonstrate multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive diverse and respectful college community. Employ antiracist and antioppressive practices and principles throughout all programming and small group facilitation
- Serve as an outstanding student role model by articulating and exemplifying Ithaca Colleges academic and community expectations
- Provide feedback to supervisor regarding New Student and Transition Program events services and resources in relation to the student experience
- Educate incoming students on academic social career and mental health support services on campus
- Attend and participate in Orientation Leader training
Job Requirements
All candidates must:
- Be in good judicial and academic standing (with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 maintained through the period of employment)
- Maintain status as an undergraduate or graduate student with fulltime enrollment at time of hire through Fall 2025
- Adhere to the Office of New Student and Transition Programs policies the Student Conduct Code and all national state and local laws throughout the duration of employment
Please note: due to overlapping training requirements between positions interested candidates should know that they cannot be Orientation Leaders if they are also Resident Assistants (RAs) Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) or Student Leadership Consultants (SLCs).
Employment Details
- All Orientation staff will receive comprehensive leadership development training designed to increase knowledge of campus resources effective communication strategies leadership tools and crisis management strategies to create a highfunctioning cohesive Orientation team
- Fall Orientation Leaders will be paid at an hourly rate of $15.50

2025 Work Schedule
- Orientation Staff Meet & Greet (optional/unpaid): April 23 2025 from 11 a.m.1 p.m.
- Staff MoveIn (unpaid): August
- Staff Training (required): August.5 hours)
- Fall 2025 Orientation (required): Augusthours)
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal teamwork and communication skills
- Demonstrate respect for others rights feelings lifestyles and diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrate multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive diverse and respectful college community
- Proven work ethic time management and attention to detail
- Ability to present yourself professionally and confidently to students parents and family members and campus partner
- Ability to manage stress effectively
- Ability to work in large highenergy group settings
- Experience and/or willingness to present to and facilitate groups of 2025 people
- Experience working directly with people from traditionally marginalized populations
