The SHE Manager leads sitelevel deployment of SC Johnsons Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) management practices to ensure compliance with local legal requirements and SCJ global standards. The SHE manager is experienced in seeing the big picture to align SC Johnsons overall safety health and environmental strategies with sitelevel targets and objectives. In this role you will ensure that plant teams know the right things to be working on (or not working on) based on this alignment. While this role requires safety health and environmental technical knowledge and experience success is equally dependent on developing and supporting champions within the site to drive daytoday ownership for SHE. This position is part of a matrix organization and involves frequent interaction with global and regional supply chain leaders to review progress on established objectives and review opportunities for continued success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises the site SHE team and provides coaching and mentoring to strengthen competencies associated with functional skills and SCJ leadership success drivers.
Partners with all site operations leader to deploy leader standard work for managers and supervisors to support achievement of sitespecific targets and objectives.
Manages deployment of SHE compliance assurance processes to enable compliance with applicable laws permit authorizations and company standards.
Leads activities to comply with regulatory and company standards associated with the management of highhazard chemical processes (e.g. process safety management).
Develops internal audit processes including SHErelated GEMBA and behavior observations that proactively identify potential SHE nonconformances.
Verifies timely effective closure of identified SHErelated corrective and preventive actions.
Collaborates with the sites engineering and maintenance teams to ensure that inspections testing preventive maintenance activities associated with SHEcritical equipment and applicable highhazard chemical processes are defined and appropriately documented.
Provides subject matter expertise to support periodic external regulatory inspections associated with safety health environmental and/or fire protection matters.
Develops and manages processes to ensure that safety and environmental incidents are investigated and that corrective and preventive actions that address root causes are effectively deployed across the site.
Leads the development and maintenance of training processes to ensure that required safety health and environmental training for the site is defined addresses required content and is tracked to completion.
Serves as the site champion for the sites Management of Change (MOC) reviews to evaluate and control potential health and safety hazards and environmental impacts associated with business activity changes.
Verifies the accuracy of data in the companys SHE database (e.g. Entropy) and analyzes the data to identify loss trends that can contribute to injuries and illnesses adverse environmental impacts and SHE process nonconformances.
Champions the deployment of employeedriven safety and environmental teams and facilitates technical support for team activities that promote a safe healthy and environmentally responsible workplace.
Manages the SHE department budget.
Leads all initiatives through effective project management ensuring timely completion and resource allocation
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOULL BRING
Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety Industrial Hygiene Environmental Science Engineering or related discipline
7yrs of progressively increasing SHE leadership responsibility in a global manufacturing organization
Experience in highhazard chemical process safety management (PSM) such as the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration PSM standard or European Seveso Directive
Previous team management experience required
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Experience in driving daytoday ownership of SHE processes to nonSHE program champions
Advanced degree Occupational Safety Environmental Science or related discipline
Designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or country equivalent
Ability to interact with others establishing open candid and trusting relationships to create win/win outcomes
Effective communication skills that permit the clear and concise transfer of information to stakeholders
Ability to influence decisions based on providing appropriate factbased rationale
Adaptability and Critical Thinking to adapt to changing regulations SCJ policies workplace conditions and unexpected challenges while thinking critically to find effective solutions.
Leadership and Team Management leading crossfunctional teams motivating employees to comply with safety procedures and fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Fulltime core office hours with expectation to be available for occasional nights/weekends
Up to 10 domestic travel may be required
Work in an office environment will be approximately 50 of time
Work in a manufacturing environment will be approximately 50 of time
