Job Description
What We Are Looking For
The Patent and Licensing Associate under direction manages an assigned moderate volume portfolio of intellectual property that has been created within Baylor University. This position will help to manage the universitys intellectual property portfolio and bring research into the commercial sector. This position will evaluate the patentability and commercial potential of technology developed by the university as well as assisting in drafting and negotiating patent related agreements in support of Baylors technologies. This position will also provide service to Baylor University faculty as well as evaluate market strategize value and commercialize technologies developed at the university.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a STEM field
- Two years of experience in technology transfer commercialization research or equivalent
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to synthesize and communicate complex information into clear and concise formats
*All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a fulltime basis.
What You Will Do
- Assist/advise faculty and researchers in the process of technology disclosure and intellectual property matters
- Assist with the management of the universitys patent portfolio; reviews patentrelated correspondence; instructs patent counsel as needed to ensure appropriate patent coverage for university technologies
- Review analyze and evaluate new disclosures for commercial potential taking into account factors including but not limited to practical application stage of development and intellectual property protection opportunities
- Recommend strategies for statutory protection and best path to market
- Conduct market research projection and valuation of technologies
- Prepare nonconfidential summaries of technologies for use in marketing where appropriate
- Contact potential licensees and explain possible utilities and value of new innovations to elicit their interest and feedback
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylors mission
- Ability to comply with university policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
