Description

Metal Technicians are considered the Masters of the industry. They have mastered all skill sets. They possess a positive attitude with employees and portray a professional business image. They must be an exceptional producer and generate a maximum of production with a minimum of error. They must be capable of making decisions and have a high level of sound judgment. They must be extremely well organized in work habits work area tools and equipment. They have studied the industry actively involved their self in training through individual research and outside courses and certification. MasterMetal Technician shall pass as many of their skills on to Level 1 and Level 2 Metal Technicians as they can.

Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all safety and OSHA procedures and requirements.
  • Maintaining a copy of the work order in the left corner of dash throughout repair process.
  • Being responsible for all repairs assigned and listed on the work order. This includes all additional notes listed requesting special requests promises or repair procedures from company or customer.
  • Covering any vehicle to be repaired in the prescribed manner to prevent overspray from coming in contact with vehicle surfaces. This will be the metal technicians responsibility.
  • Performing initial tear down and thorough inspection for missing items and labors on work order. Reporting any items to Estimator and Parts Manager as quickly as possible so that the initial order of parts may be a complete order of parts.
  • Completing the repairs in a quality manner following the companys Repair Standards.
  • Applying undercoating corrosion protection gravel guard seam sealer weldthru primer and lubricants as the need presents itself or as listed on the repair order.
  • After painting being responsible for reassembling headlight adjustment and other final alignments and adjustments prior to the vehicle being delivered.
  • All straightening and repairs will be according to factory specifications and ICAR procedures including door hood and deck alignments chassis and frame measurements welded on unibody parts etc.
  • Upon nearing completion of a job advising Management and requesting new assignment.
  • Remaining conscious of and working in harmony with the target delivery dates of your jobs in progress and always striving to meet those delivery dates as listed on the windshield tags.
  • Being responsible for and accountable for all parts for any jobs that are assigned to you.
  • Maintaining a good work attitude and cooperating with managers and fellow employees in a positive spirit of teamwork.
  • Being proficient at metal straightening plastic finish work and structural repair and welding.
  • Being knowledgeable of the various plastics urethanes and other compounds and their properties and being proficient in the knowledge of their repair processes.
  • Possessing ability to diagnose and correctly repair damage.
  • Possessing ability to follow work order through completion of job.
  • Performing all repairs to company standards.
  • Responsible for preventing any overspray from coming in contact with any body part trim tires wheels etc.
  • Reworking any repair that does not meet company standards or customers expectations.
  • Performing quality check on refinish work prior to reassembly.
  • Participating in daily release meeting.
  • Notifying Management immediately of any vehicle that may not meet target date.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment within your department.
  • Apply metal conditions corrosion protection and weld through primers on any metal requiring such treatment.
  • Collect all the parts assigned to the job and individually open and inspect them to verify correctness making sure that all the original packing materials are saved (boxes wrappers etc.
  • Notify the Parts Manager immediately if any of the parts are incorrect
  • Always complete the disassembly process keeping in mind that another Technician may reassemble the vehicle.
  • Save all supplemental parts until the repairs are entirely completed and the vehicle has been delivered to the owner.
  • Remove stripe tape molding and emblem adhesive on complete panels to be repaired.
  • Cover repair area with protective blanket when welding or grinding.
  • Before welding coat all bare metal with an approved weld through primer. If you are using a resistance spot welder apply a seam sealer between the surfaces to be welded.
  • Align all outer sheet metal to vehicle and attach firmly with tech screws or vise grips to assure no movement when welding.
  • Feather the surrounding areas of a repaired area with 150 grit on a sander to remove all coarse sanding marks and scratches.
  • Clean repair areas with blow gun and inspect for defects (pinholes sandmarks etc. before sending vehicle to paint department.
  • Blow car off completely to remove as much dust as possible before sending to paint department.
  • Keep all repair areas small so as to reduce the risk for excessive paint blending.
  • Notify Management of any delays in the repair process.
  • Use compression welder whenever and wherever practical.
  • Use adhesives in conjunction with welding as per OEM recommendations.
  • Accurate and punctual use of time clock.
  • Present a clean and neat appearance at all times.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly production area throughout the workday.
