Job Title: Student Resource Specialist
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of Behavioral Health & Student Resources.
Division: Student Affairs Student Health Services
Job Summary: The Student Resource Specialist is the primary contact person on campus for students with disabilities and other daily life needs. The Specialist reviews approves oversees arranges and/or provides accommodations and support services for qualified students. This position reports to the Director of Behavioral Health Services and the Executive Director of Student Health Services.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a caseload of students with disabilities: conduct student intake interviews determine and communicate academic accommodations and provide coaching and accessibility services to individual students with disabilities.
  • Identify and maintain relationships with entities that support student wellbeing (Department of Social Services City/County/State resources such as housing food banks financial assistance etc.
  • Maintain accurate records in a confidential manner in keeping with FERPA and ADA requirements.
  • Accurately and properly documents all contacts made with students in the Medicat electronic health records system.
  • Makes evidencebased decisions based on student needs.
  • Maintain contact with the academic arena regarding individual students and collaborate with them to provide support and accountability.
  • Participate in Academic Review.
  • Collaborate with Mental Health Services Residential Life and other campus entities to develop a coordinated campuswide response to mental health needs and issues.
  • Collaborate with Admissions and meet with prospective students and their parents to collaborate with other BCU staff for tutoring study strategies accountability support and accommodations for students as needed.
  • Identifies students with disabilities. Assess students eligibility for services and arrange accommodations to meet students needs.
  • Works with faculty staff and external service providers and agencies to coordinate and implement services for students with disabilities.
  • Acts as an advocate for students with disabilities/special population students and participates in the development of an educational environment that promotes their success.
  • Maintains and reviews student files for accuracy and ADA/Perkins compliance.
  • Schedules and coordinates interpreters and other professional services required for accommodations.
  • Creates and maintains a secure listing of students who have medical concerns while on campus or who need assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation. Acts as liaison with campus security to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure that the institution meets its obligation to provide access to students with disabilities.
  • Provide students with the accommodations they are entitled to while simultaneously protecting the integrity of academic programs and services.
  • Participates in relevant professional development activities to stay informed of state and federal regulations regarding students with disabilities and special populations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Commitment to accessibility and knowledge of state and federal guidelines related to accessibility issues.
  • Commitment to professional growth through professional organizations/development opportunities; willingness to pursue and apply additional training and information in an evolving field.
  • Excellent listening and oral and written communication skills that enable effective working relationships with diverse populations and with people across the college community.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Capacity to handle unexpected and potentially emergent/crisis situations in consultation with Student Life personnel.
Education and Experience:
  • Masters degree in Social Work Psychology or Counseling.
  • Doctorate Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of progressively more responsible experience in special education and/or working with people with disabilities or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
  • Experience in collaborating with faculty to support accessibility instructional design.
Preferred Skills Experience and Education:
  • Knowledge of disability documentation and legal requirements for the provision of disability services.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong supervisory skills to supervise student workers.
  • Excellent organizational skills attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of characteristics of specific disabilities particularly with motivated students at the college level.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints.
  • Knowledge of the range of accessible technology.
