SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Agronomy Technician is an important part of the McCain Farms team. They provide technical expertise for producing high yielding excellent quality crops. This is a fulltime position with changing responsibilities throughout each part of the year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform seed size cutting profiles for different varieties.
• Manage seed piece treatment applicator for rate of chemical titration.
• Crop scouting activities.
• Collect identify and quantify accurate field data and information concerning pests diseases weeds and other abiotic crop stresses including water and nutrients on crop fields.
• Measure planter performance.

• Measurement of plant stand and spacing.
• Sampling for soil moisture and plant nutrient levels.

• Collection of yield information and reporting of crop discrepancies.

• Collection of all trial digs and grading trials for data interpretation.
• Accurate reporting of the data using geolocalization.

• Conduct internal audits lead Canada GAP audit.
• Manage and maintain chemical inventories; make spray recommendations and calibrate sprayers.
• Update and maintain McCain Foods Grower database.
• Update and distribute yearly Crop Plans.
• Maintain yearly subscription and activation of GPS equipment.
• Daily monitoring of all potato storages in all locations (including fan controls humidity refrigeration systems and pile health).
• Organizing repair of any storage equipment deficiencies.
• Grading of retained storage samples postharvest for pack shed intelligence.
• Assist in delivering color and or quality samples to McCain Foods for grading.
• Organize the Pesticide Applicator license course for Farm Operators.
• Work with farm management to implement farm plans during the entire crop season.
• Work with a team to review daily activities and longterm planning objectives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR THIS ROLE

• Agriculture certification/degree is preferred experience is a consideration in lieu of a certification/degree.
• Class 5 drivers license.
• Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain required.
• Experience using GPS technology for agriculture use; smart phone proficiency is a must.
• Able to detect and identify all relevant potato pests and diseases including but not limited to: PVY Late Blight Early Blight Weeds (identification of major weeds for the region) Colorado Potato Beetles Aphids.
• Knowledge of data collection and reporting.
• Strong computer skills MS Office Suite.

• Excellent math and analytical skillsmust have the ability to produce and interpret charts/graphs.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Selfmotivated and results oriented.
• Comfortable and willing to work in an outdoor and field environment for long hours often in difficult weather conditions.
• Ability to lift a maximum of 22.5kg/50lbs.

• Must follow ALL Safety Policy and Procedures as outlined by the Company membership in the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) is required

• Long hours are required during peak (planting and harvest) seasons.
