We are seeking a skilled Coating Metrology Engineer to take ownership of the metrology lab ensuring process control equipment uptime and continuous improvement. This role involves operating and maintaining optical measurement tools developing robust data collection techniques and supporting both production and R&D efforts. The ideal candidate will collaborate across teams to troubleshoot technical issues analyze thin film coating performance and optimize manufacturing processes. Come join a growing team!
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Provide ownership of the area process pedigree and continuous improvement of the thin film coating metrology lab
Operate and maintain numerous optical spectrophotometers FTIRs ellipsometer and microscope equipment supporting uptime and calibrations
Perform and create robust data collection techniques and methods for measuring thin film coating optical performance working in conjunction with optical coating engineers and technicians
Establish data acquisition/analysis SPC and calibration best practices
Support the production and R&D efforts of the department in acquiring data reviewing customer specifications and requirements and determining pass/fail
Develop robust documentation test procedures and manufacturing work instructions with assistance from coating engineering and operations personnel.
Collaborate effectively across the organization working closely with coating quality manufacturing and program office departments
Resolve technical issues as they arise during coating evaluation with assistance from coating engineering quality engineering and operations personnel; identifies root causes of manufacturing problems using analytical techniques; provides clear and concise corrective action reports.
Troubleshoot product quality and production yield problems and supports corrective action teams.
Support manufacturing operations to ensure products are delivered on time
Education & Experience
Minimum BS in engineering physics optics materials science or equivalent
5 years of thin film coating metrology experience in a manufacturing environment preferably at an aerospace company
Skills
Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
Experience with thinfilm measurement techniques and equipment preferred (spectrophotometer FTIR ellipsometer profilometer digital microscope)
Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet software including MS Office Suite to support requirements for technical reports and analytical studies.
Handson experience in thin film optical characterization technologies (Must possess a thorough understanding of the physics and practical mechanics of these processes)
Ability to read and interpret drawings specifications blueprints
Experience in design of experiments data analysis and statistical analysis
Ability to create technical presentations for both internal and external customers.
Strong analytical and problemsolving skills. DOE and rootcause (RRCA 5Why 8D) experience strongly desired.
Strong organizational skills and attention to details required.
Experience in creating and maintaining work instructions procedures process documentation with configuration control.
