UF Center for Precollegiate Education and Training

Environmental Science and Toxicology Program Instructor

The Center for Precollegiate Education and Training (CPET) is looking for an OPS Program Instructor for Summer 2025 who is motivated and enthusiastic in teaching science concepts and research techniques to talented High School students. The Program Instructor will help develop and deploy research education curriculum focused on Environmental Health/Science and Toxicology topics in a twoweek UF campus residential program for rising Junior and Senior High School students.

Duties:

  • Work with the Program Director to develop plan and implement handson research science education activities for the Research Explorations Environmental Science and Toxicology program. Activities in the program include research experiments field work site visits/tours discussions with UF researchers and guest lectures
  • Prepare educational materials (such as presentations handouts and lab manuals) lab experiments (including testing protocols and preparing reagents/materials) together with CPET staff
  • Ensure compliance with Youth and UF EHS regulations
  • Instruct and supervise program participants during the program including leading labs and field trips giving lectures on related topics and overseeing extracurricular activities.
  • Assist in activities to prepare and implement other CPET summer programs as needed

Position begins May 15. Environmental Science and Toxicology Program dates are July 6 18.

Expected Salary:

$18/hour

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must have completed or be close to completing (within 1 year/ABD) a PhD in Environmental Science Environmental Health Toxicology Biomedical or a related field or have taught at a collegiate level in those fields.
  • Fingerprint and DCF level background check prior to hiring.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of any UF EHS required laboratory training.
  • Must be familiar with performing current research techniques used in environmental and biomedical science fields such as eDNA analysis water quality testing pathogen surveillance and toxicology testing or be able to independently learn related techniques and protocols.
  • Good communication skills that can relate collegiate level topics to a high school level audience in a creative and engaging manner.
  • Organized and able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
