Duties

Assists in the supervision and training of incarcerated individual workers under the direction of the shop supervisor/lead:

Participates in the planning and scheduling of resources:
  • Participates in the scheduling of materials and incarcerated individual workers to meet customer completion dates as directed.
  • Direct and assign incarcerated workers.
  • Verify order information to ensure production/service fulfillment accuracy.
  • As directed coordinate raw material delivery finished goods delivery and support services.
  • Follow established preventative maintenance schedule of equipment.
  • Monitor and verify standard operating procedures are followed (e.g.: identify and report deficiencies conduct inprocess inspections verify correct raw material usage)
Ensure incarcerated individuals receive safety training and adhere to safe work practices:
  • Maintain proper recordkeeping.
  • Ensure incarcerated individual workers have access to current DOC Safety Program related manuals policies operational memorandums procedures and standards.
  • Within established timelines review and investigate accident reports to identify what caused the event and recommend preventive measures.
  • Document safety and sanitation inspections as required.
  • Participate in and/or conduct monthly safety committee/meetings.
Administrative duties and other duties as assigned:
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping.
  • Participates in the interview/hire process of incarcerated individual workers as required.
  • Participate/conduct inventory control and counts.
  • Provides input in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Prepares or provides reports as requested.
  • Participates in product management and development teams as assigned.
  • As requested recommends design/engineering improvements to products/production/services to enhance operations.
  • Certified trainers may assist in conducting workforce development training.
  • Support continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
  • One 1 year full time work experience in afood service food manufacturing food processing or institutional feeding environment.
OR
  • One 1 year total full time work experience as a Correctional Industries Supervisor Assistant within the Washington State Department of Corrections.
AND
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products or equivalent software programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in routine and emergent situations.
  • Ability to develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities.
Desired qualifications:
  • More than one 1 year full time work experience in a food service food manufacturing food processing OR institutional feeding environment.
  • An AA degree or Vocational Certificate/degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
  • Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) software knowledge.
  • Experience in teaching and training.
  • Experience working within a correctional facility.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Successfully complete within mandated timeframes employee orientation and all other mandatory annual inservice and other required training.
  • Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
  • Become familiar and comply with all DOC policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Must currently possess or obtain a valid State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Workers Permit within 14 days of hire a valid Food Handlers Certification as required by Washington State Department of Health and maintain active throughout employment.
  • This position is included in a union shop.
  • Must pass preemployment UA test.

  • Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority health issue for DOC employees. The successful candidate may be required to provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire. When positive tests result further information testing and treatment will also be required. Employment is not contingent upon test results.
