ERG is seeking an experienced Environmental Planning and Cultural Resources Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team of planners and compliance specialists within our Environmental Planning and Impact Assessment service area. This team provides a wide range of planning services to Federal and State clients that require expertise in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) impact assessments NEPA program implementation related studies and consultations public outreach and involvement and cultural resources management.
This fulltime position can be performed remotely or in a hybrid work environment at either of ERGs Fairfax VA or Arlington VA offices. Candidates local to the greater Washington D.C. area will be preferred since the position requires occasional visits to client sites in the region.
Job Description:
National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA):
Provide expertlevel management support and guidance in conducting environmental impact reviews pursuant to NEPA
Manage and/or work within multidisciplinary teams in the preparation of environmental impact assessments (i.e. NEPA Environmental Assessments EAs Environmental Impact Statements EISs and statelevel impact assessments)
Manage and/or support screeninglevel reviews to determine the level of NEPA review (Categorical Exclusion CATEX EA or EIS) required for planned federal actions
Support the development of agencyspecific NEPA programs including developing standard operating procedures guidelines and training
Cultural Resources Management:
Provide expertlevel management support and guidance to ensure compliance with cultural resource related statutes regulations and executive orders including but not limited to the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
Lead NHPA Section 106 consultations with local state federal and Tribal stakeholders and conduct related outreach
Analyze archeological and architectural resources within defined areas based on records searches and make effects determinations for proposed undertakings
Assist with developing and implementing cultural resource management programs for federal agencies
Coordinate additional support from specialized cultural resources subcontractors
Other/General:
Provide workinglevel management support and guidance related to compliance with additional environmental statutes regulations and executive orders including but not limited to the Endangered Species Act Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act
Support consultations and public outreach with local state and federal resource management agencies
Lead various research tasks technical writing and other environmental and cultural resource related tasks
Lead various aspects of projects such as tracking budgets and schedules monitoring scopes facilitating meetings coordinating deliverables and communicating with clients
Perform desktopbased research and report development and conduct occasional site visits
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelors degree in environmental or physical science environmental or civil engineering environmental policy environmental planning architectural history archeology or a related field
5 to 15 years of relevant experience specifically including experience in cultural resource management and managing and/or preparing NEPA EAs and EISs
Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secretlevel security clearance
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to clearly organize and synthesize project findings and recommendations for a diverse group of stakeholders
Strong understanding of NHPA Section 106 processes and NRHP eligibility criteria
Strong time management skills. Ability to manage and prioritize numerous concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines
Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking. Ability to develop highquality clientready deliverables
Ideal candidates will have experience performing and/or managing Phase I II and III cultural resource investigations
Ideal candidates will meet Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualification Standards
Ideal candidates will have project management experience including developing project schedules budgets and meeting client goals
Ideal candidates will have experience with Federal state and/or local consultation and coordination for infrastructure projects
Ideal candidates will be local to the greater Washington D.C. area

$75000 $130000 a year
