Position Summary
Are you to take on a new challenge and advance yourcareer TNDC in collaboration with Newmont is seeking enthusiastic candidatesto intern in various roles. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuableexperience and contribute to exciting projects. Internships will take placeover three 3 twoweek rotations in Summer 2025 (June August or July September) with interns contributing to the Construction Management Team (CMT)for the 2025 Tailings Dam Raise at Red Chris.
Successful candidates will have a work experiencetailored to their existing qualifications and desired growth areas withdedicated mentorship from experienced earthworks construction managementprofessionals. The core of the internship will be spent contributing in anapprentice capacity receiving onthejob training and fulfilling the duties ofone of the roles below. Interns will also gain exposure to the full range ofconstruction management career options and have direct exposure to TNDC andNewmont leadership for career guidance.
Resources and opportunities for further career growthwill be jointly supported by Newmont TNDC and the TCG Employment Office who willwork to ensure candidates have all the information to support next stepsfollowing a successful internship. 1.Survey Apprentice (entry level someconstruction experience valuable).
- The Survey Apprentice will contributeto all aspects of field surveying to ensure dam construction proceeds inaccordance with geometric specifications. They will be trained in the use ofmodern survey equipment to provide field layout of 3D designs draft fieldsketches and maps and collect data using UAVs (drones). Surveying is an essential component of thequality management system helping to minimize construction rework andsafeguard the integrity of the dams for generations to come.
- The successful candidate will bementored by the Senior Surveyor.
2.Quality Control and Materials TestingApprentice (entry level some construction experience valuable).
- The Quality Control and MaterialsTesting Apprentice will contribute to all aspects of field quality control andlaboratory testing to ensure dam fills conform with technical specifications the lab they will be trained in the use of ASTM standard testing proceduresfor earth fill materials including grain size analysis moisture content andstandard proctor tests. The apprentice will also be trained on fieldconstruction monitoring procedures including the use of a nuclear densometergauge. Quality control is an essential component of the quality managementsystem helping to minimize construction rework and safeguard the integrity ofthe dams for generations to come.
- The successful candidate will bementored by the QC and Lab Supervisor.
3.Health & Safety Apprentice 3years of construction experience required in any role).
- The Health & Safety Apprentice willcontribute to the Health & Safety Team ensuring the construction programis conducted in a way that protects personnel safety in line with all relevantcodes and standards. They will be trained in conducting risk assessments jobhazard analysis traffic management and incident response and investigation.The apprentice will also be trained in the administration of the Fatality RiskManagement (FRM) program and be coached in conducting field Critical ControlVerifications (CCV). Safety is a core value for both Newmont and TNDC andactive engagement from the Health & Safety Team is essential to ensuringthat all personnel go home same.
- The successful candidate will bementored by the H&S Lead.
4.Project Coordination Apprentice 3years of construction experience required in any role).
- The Project Coordination Apprenticewill contribute to the Engineering and Coordination team in the tracking andcontinuous improvement of earthworks construction . They will assistin the development of plans with a focus on resource management(equipment and personnel) to maximize value opportunities for the project. Theywill help determine which equipment is best suited for each job estimateproductivities and durations and provide cost estimates. They will supportdaytoday construction tracking activities such as timesheet and haul logentry data management short interval controls and earned value calculations.
- The successful candidatewill be mentored by the Project Coordinator with close involvement from theSenior Supervisor and Project Engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Internship experiences are available for a range of experience levels.
- Must be over 18 years old with a valid drivers license.
- Basic computer skills are required for all roles (familiarity with Microsoft Word Outlook Excel and PowerPoint). Specific computer skills training is available if required.
- Applicants must be Tahltan or Tahltan Associate.
- Candidates currently employed by TNDC or Newmont will be reallocated to these internships temporarily with no change in pay or benefits.
