Aboutthe Work Unit
The Executive Directors Office (EDO) is the backbone of the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) providing effective administrative and management services to the Departments operating divisions.
The EDO includes the following:
The Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director Oversees strategic direction and operations for the department.
Administrative Services Office Provides division and departmentlevel administrative and support functions encompassing accounting purchasing and contracts budget logistics services (fleet warehousing material management and fabrication) and property services (property management leasing facilities maintenance construction project management and insurance programs) to support the operations and programs of CDPS divisions.
Human Resources Office Supports recruitment hiring evaluation benefits management personnel actions payroll and all other human resources functions.
Compliance Office Manages Departmental Policy Risk Management Workers Compensation Program Workplace Investigations Internal Auditing Rulemaking and ensures compliance with state and federal requirements and the States LESO 1033/1122 programs.
Colorado Integrated Criminal Justice Information Systems develops costeffective information sharing services to provide access for criminal justice agencies while maintaining information security. CICJIS is a collaborative program designed to facilitate information sharing at key decision points in the criminal justice process. There are five participating CICJIS agencies: the Department of Corrections Judicial the Colorado District Attorneys Council the Division of Youth Corrections and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Office of School Safety assists local schools and communities to create safe and positive school climates for prek through higher education schools in Colorado.
The Administrative Services Office provides internal administrative support to the Divisions within CDPS and include the following sections:
Chief Administrative Officers office
Accounting Services and Commercial Cards led by the Controller
Budget and Policy led by the Budget Director
Purchasing and Contracts by the Purchasing Director
Logistics Services Section led by the Logistics Director
Property Services Section led by the Property Services Director
The Property Services Section (PSS) is the departments subject matter experts on real property* property management facilities maintenance insurance construction leasing and environmental matters. This section provides centralized support to all functional and administrative needs for department facilities through three functional units with specific programmatic focuses:
- Facilities Maintenance Branch (FMB). This branch contains structural repair and skilled tradestechnicians who maintain repair and update our department facilities to ensure operational readiness of the facilities and site conditions which facilitate the mission requirements of the buildings occupants. The work unit provides for a safe highquality physical work environment by maintaining buildings and grounds in compliance with acceptable professional standards.
- Property Management Branch (PMB). This branch conducts property leasing property or campus management (includes the Kipling Campus) real estate acquisitions property and contents insurance and environmental reporting for the Greening Government and Executive Order related programs (EnergyCAP annual reports etc..
- Capital Development and Planning Branch (CDPB). This branch conducts program driven construction and major renovation or maintenance driven projects arising out of an agency/institutions need to create expand or alter a program due to growth advances in technology or changes in methods or program delivery or the deterioration of a facilitys physical and functional condition including site and infrastructure and the ability to comply with current building and life safety codes and various certifications and standards. This branch receives project requests plans develops and manages Capital Construction projects for all CDPS owned facilities. In coordination with the Property Services Director the Office of the State Architect (OSA) and CDPS divisions plans requests and manages Controlled Maintenance projects for all CDPS owned facilities. CDPB is responsible for the development and maintenance of the CDPS Operational and Facilities Master Plans and develops Facility Program Plans and capital request submissions pursuant to the Statewide Planning Framework process implemented by the OSA. The CDPB and personnel assigned to this organization serves as a delegated extension of the Office of the State Architect ensuring CDPS can adequately maintain infrastructure and develop or modernize facilities to meet programmatic requirements while operating under State rules regulations processes and fiscal guidelines.
*Real property means a facility stateowned grounds around a facility a campus of more than one facility and the grounds around such facilities stateowned fixtures and improvements on land and every stateowned estate interest privilege tenement easement rightofway and other right in land legal or equitable but not including leasehold interests.

Must be able to read understand follow and give oral and written instructions.
This position will routinely be exposed to and is expected to interact with armed law enforcement officers while conducting daily business.

About the Job
Perform the facilities maintenance and preventative maintenance services and building equipment required for the daily operation of CDPS facilities and the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) Academy located at Camp George West (CGW). This position provides the facilities building maintenance/preventative maintenance services required in the construction maintenance and repair of Colorado Department of Public Safety and CSP Academy located at CGW. Provides for a safe secure and quality physical environment while incorporating the agencys mission and goals by providing facilities management services.
Key Responsibilities
Facility / Building Maintenance
Full operating structural trades II performing (skilled and semiskilled trades) including building maintenance services grounds services and facility preventative maintenance services for the flooring (tile gym wood workout mats) plumbing painting lighting and locksmith duties. The work includes installing altering and maintaining buildings and grounds required for the safe operation of CSP Academy and other CSP offices. The preventative maintenance construction renovation and repair programs include carpentry electrical plumbing HVAC snow removal welding grounds (Grass trees walkways parking lots and common areas) and general building components. (Windows doors roofs and furniture) This will support all internal programs related to operations at The Academy including but not limited to the cafeteria dorms meeting halls classrooms gun range driving track and evidence locals.
Inspections and Auditing
Inspects building and facility equipment to determine requirements for the maintenance repair needs and costs of the CSP Academy and other CSP offices. Provides the structural trades review in the performance of facilities audits for State Buildings. Reads interprets and works from sketches diagrams and blueprints for planning new or modifying existing facilities flooring ceiling and wall systems for construction and maintenance. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert for any structural deficiencies or constructionrelated issues. Conducts weekly FOD walks and landscaping needs.
Assist Other Trades
Performs semiskilled construction trade work including minor electrical plumbing and HVAC tasks. Assists trades staff and Capitol Development team as needed.
Troubleshooting and Repair
Troubleshoot and repair equipment and systems fire sprinklers safety alarm systems locks/keys Kitchen equipment HVAC Boilers plumbing fixtures lighting and furnishings.
Event Coordination
Order supplies chairs tables tents and any other materials required for the event. Tech will also assist in the setup and breakdown of all goods and design layout of tables and chairs for each event. Assist customers with any A.V. or technology needs or problems.

Proven Experience Knowledge Skills
Four years of experience as building mechanic and maintenance repair equipment and systems such asfire sprinkler safety alarm systems locks/keys Kitchen equipment HVAC Boilers plumbing fixtures lighting and furnishings
OR Education and Experience Knowledge Skills
Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a yearforyear basis.
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
- Advanced skills in computer software and applications (i.e. MS Office products such as Word Excel Outlook and SharePoint).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problemsolving skills with a strong ability to manage multiple and changing priorities.
- Highly organized resourceful with strong attention to detail.
- The ideal candidate can perform manual dexterity (general physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body such as climbing lifting balancing walking stooping and handling of materials.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam a fingerprint based criminal history search reference checking.
- Must be Colorado resident at the time of application.
- Must have a valid Colorado drivers license.
- Be able to Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
