Description

SIUE Police Servicesis currently seeking to fill vacancies for LATERAL TRANSFER Police Officer(s) through open recruitment. The SIUE Police Department is a communityoriented law enforcement agency that comprises of certified law enforcement officers and civilian employees. They have full investigatory and arrest powers granted by Illinois law. The department is open and accessible to the university community 24/7 with its own telecommunication unit. The SIUE Police Department operates with the philosophy of providing a safe and secure campus environment which includes conducting routine patrols and enforcing both criminal and traffic statutes of Illinois. The primary responsibility of SIUE Police Officers is to protect life and property through enforcement of laws ordinances and University rules and regulations. They also provide various servicerelated needs for the university community such as safety escorts and vehicle lockouts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Patrol University communities (Edwardsville East St. Louis and Alton) by car or on foot.

  • Control and assist the movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic by physically directing traffic.

  • Respond to requests for nonenforcement service assistance to the University Communities.

  • Identify investigate and report hazards that might endanger the public safety and/or University physical plant spaces or equipment.

  • Assist other local law enforcement agencies as needed.

  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the departments mission and goals.

Work Schedule: Due to the professional responsibilities of this position shift assignments and workdays will vary including weekdays evenings weekends and holidays. Location assignments are based on University and department needs but candidates must be able to work at all three campus locations: Edwardsville East St. Louis and Alton.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Successfully completed at least two 2 years of employment as a fulltime sworn and certified law enforcement officer; and
  • Either possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) and satisfy the requirements established by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board or be eligible to be certified by ILETSB;
  • The applicant must not have been suspended for disciplinary reasons by the current or most recent employer;
  • The applicant cannot have a break in law enforcement officer (LEO) service of more than three 3 years at the time of their previous employment;
  • The applicant must pass a background investigation which may include features such as fingerprinting police records checks credit checks and inquiries of neighbors relatives and employers.
  • The applicant must successfully complete a screening such as a polygraph psychological evaluation medical examination and drug screen as required by the hiring department.
  • Any applicant hired must serve a probationary period of 12 months.

International students at SIUE on F1 or J1 visas are not eligible for fulltime or parttime civil service positions with permanent status. F1 and J1 visa holders must be enrolled fulltime and can only apply for temporary parttime roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters such as student worker positions assistantships and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university and its important to highlight that benefits from statesponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
